Hello. I am the mother of two brillant children, both with ADHD, and a daughter who likely has dyscalculia. I am a research psychologist, but not a clinician nor a school psychologist. I have been extremely frustrated with the local schools and their inability to work with gifted/ld children. In fact, they were totally unaware of the special characteristics of gifted/ADHD and I had to dx my son myself.

I'm currently in a fight to get my daughter tested for dyscalculia. They refuse because she is not performing below grade level.

Anyway, I'm delighted to find the forum.

Hi! My daughter has dyscalculia. She was in a private school when she was Dxed. Funny, they suggested testing her before we, her parents, ever realized she had an LD. Anyway, I'm so glad you found us & hope you can get the answers you need!

I too am the parent of two children who are both gifted and ADHD inattentive. I find that many people, both educators and otherwise, have difficulty understanding that a child can be gifted and yet still have a disability such as ADHD or discalculia.

We'll be here to help and support you to the best of our abilities as long as you need us. Most of us have struggled to get their schools to provide a FAPE (free and appropriate public education) for our children.
