I think they can decline individual coverage for a pre-existing condition, or provide coverage but not for the condition.
But for group insurance, they can only exclude the condition for 6 months or something. They they have to cover it. I think it's called HIPA and it's a federal law.

Ok So I get quotes for changing my policy to one with a separate deductible for prescriptions, and they send them to me, but at the bottom of the nice little letter, there is a paragraph stating that you just need to fill out the enrollment form, and send it, but that is not a guarantee that you will be approved. WHAT??!! We have had this insurance for almost a year! So I call the company and ask them what that means, and they go on to tell me that most likely chase's condition will be "ridered" and I am sure we all know what that means... I am ready to just chuck the insurance all together and bank that monthly premium to use for doctor visits and meds....it would more than cover it each month....then if we end up in the hospital, just worry about that at the time....heck isn't that what more than half of America does anyhow??? The only other solution would be for me to try to find a job with benefits, and that is gonna be hard for a 45 year old woman who hasn't yet finished her college degree..... Right now, Chase's medicine (the ritalin LA) is covered under a patient assistance program, but that has to be renewed yearly, and makes me nervous that it could be pulled at any time....the rest are relatively inexpensive...
