At the beginning of the school year I finally had a meeting to determine if Tiff needed a 504 or IEP. They agreed to do the full battery of testing. That is was finally time to do it through the school system. Yeah for me!!!
So a couple of weeks ago, we met after they had concluded all of the testing. It was determined that she does have a math LD. That is her definite weakness.
Even while they were doing the testing, she has become part of a group of 6 that are pulled out for reading. I got to see that reading class this week during American Education Week. So much better for her then the group of 28 she was with.
During the evaluation meeting, the Vice Principal was pushing for just a 504. My mother had gone with me and both of us were stating that she needs this extra help and time, etc. Well the Special Educator spoke up and said that Tiff needs an IEP. And then the Psychologist agreed. So that is what was decided. Thank goodness.
Well tomorrow morning (Thursday) I am going in to see what they have come up with as far as the IEP. I am already not signing it right then and there. I want to be able to read over it and absorb just what they are willing to do. Then if anything needs to be changed I can submit them.
This has been such a long process. And I am so thankful that they have finally seen that just doing some accomodations without anything in writing or even knowing if what they were doing was right for her needs had come to this point.

I am estactic!
A mother of one of T's friends teaches special ed and writes IEP's all the time. She went over what they would do during this whole process. She told me shortcuts that they would try too. I have let her see all the results and paperwork that has come home. I plan on letting her see this draft Thursday too.

Well I had the IEP review meeting today. I left with an 18 page document to read and sign. I didn't sign it then, I wanted to absorb it. Most of it looks ok. I just want to make sure that all of it is ok.
