Sean's principal just called me and told me that the OT was in Sean's classroom observing today and she has some concerns about Sean particularly his writing. She was calling to ask my permission for the OT to evaluate him. DUH! It should take place in the next couple weeks. Hooray!!!

So of after this evaluation the OT discovers that Sean has an issue and he needs services would he get an IEP?

It has to be proven to have a negative affect on his education. In Sean's case, I don't think there will be any doubt that he will need one but you never know what they will decide. The fact that they are initiating it is reason for hope that he will need an IEP.

This is excellent news! Have you told them about his working Asperger's dx? Many kids with Asperger's are served in OT for visual/spatial integration issues and motor difficulties. It sounds like they are taking notice or listening, if you have told them about the dx. This is a first step, and it's a very important step, for them. Excellent, excellent news.

Yes, I did tell them at the I&RS meeting which was on Monday. Also at the meeting his teacher made it very very clear that Sean needs help that she is not able to give him. Finally we may be getting somewhere.
