Well after months of waiting, and more waiting we finally got an answer and it was not the one we wanted to hear. No meds for Sean. This according to the cardiologist. His QRS (the rate the lower ventricles contract) is "top normal" which means it doesnt have far to go to be considered abnormal. The psych. said the cardio. is non-commital as far as saying if it is safe or not. They do want to do a complete cardio. eval. which I scheduled today but the 1st available appt. is not until June 12. I have NO idea what I am going to do now-this was really my last hope.

KK...I'm so sorry that the news wasn't good for you today. I know how long you've been waiting to find out and all you've been through. Does this just mean no ADHD meds, or no meds what-so-ever? I know that he can't have the stims, but what about other meds that can help with behavior and hyperactivity, like say Tenex or Rispedal?
Big Hugs for you KK. I know this has been a long road...your such a great mom to Sean. Praying that your doc's will come up with some solution.
((((((((((((((((((((((SUPER BIG HUGS TODAY!)))))))))))))))))))))))

Don't give up hope. Someone somewhere will have something to help. Meanwhile, we'll try to help you hunt for some answers. You know there has to be other mom's with kids that can't take meds and some alternatives or meds that are safe that will work. I'm praying and I'll be looking.
Big hugs from me too. I know it must be a disappointing outcome for many reasons.

Oh KK, I'm sorry to hear that. Its still so much better to be finding out this way than to have to face the consequences of just letting someone prescribe them and having them affect his heart.
We'll be here with you, and as you find out what all is going on, help you look for the best answers for him.
(((hugs)))

KK, I agree with CharliGirl...better to find out now than to have him suffer horrible consequences down the road. I'll be on the look out too for any advice that may help!

KK,
Thinking of you and hugs to ya from me too. I wish I had an answer for you. Like jj said, maybe there are some other parents out there who have kids that can't take the meds and they have some ideas. I'll check the web too and see what I can find. Hang in there.

I truly believe that although it is certainly difficult, ADHD can be managed without medications. If that was Sean's only issue I could handle that. However it's the whole bipolar thing that has me concerned. Everything I've ever read or heard says that medication is necessary for managing bipolar. My feelings about Sean's future are frightening. You know when something bad happens many people say things like "I had no idea" or "there were no warning signs". Well that is not the case here-I see "warning signs" already. I do not want him to become a teenager who hurts himself or others. How are we supposed to leave something so serious untreated? I would certainly never risk his life by giving him meds that aren't safe for him but my concerns about not medicating are many.
