I Want to Be

This is a poem I wrote to Kathy after a particularly difficult [recent] 'discussion ' . . .




I want to escape
I want to run
But I know that would not help me be the real one.

I want to be
I want to be
I want to be more than the (me) you see.

I want to give, I want to try
I know I need you and I want to cry
I know I love you and you do too
Why do we love each other to sigh

I want to hold you, I want to be
everything then that you will ever need.
You want an answer, you want to know when
I want to know will you love me again.

I'm trying to move beyond my past
that hold me in its sticky grasp.

What is a Man I ask myself
who cannot even see himself.
My past holds me and your past holds you
how are we ever going to really break through.

When I try to talk
my mind goes 'wham'
And I'm so scared of not meeting your plan.

'Who are you' you ask of me
you want to know if I'm your man.
Who is the Man that you want me to be
I think that he really is inside of me.
