Just in case you have been too busy to look up the basic reasons a child pick their nose: Click hereMaybe cleaning her nose should be a routine before heading for school. (Like you need something else to deal with in the mornings) And sending those little packages of tissue with her. I also read that young children just don't have good nasal passages yet and therefore, just a little something in there can bother them. BTW: Misty, I've heard of that brushing technique and I've also heard some success stories as well. I had forgotten all about it until you posted that. Even if Jill's daughter doesn't officially meet the criteria for autism she has sensory issues and this just may help. It sure can't hurt to try and that would be some "special" mother/daughter time.

Hi,
I am sorry I could not be more helpful, but I commend you for switching gears this morning. I know that must have been hard. At least she told you something that was bothering her in school.
I hope you appt is helpful.

Thanks Misty I printed the article and JJ I too agree if this is all behavior why is it carrying on for over what is it now 3-4 weeks same issue. I did get out of her part of the problem is school no friends. It is so hard being a parent I hate being a working parent for then I can spend more time on what to do. I put in another call to the psychologist yesterday waiting on a return call sometimes it takes a day. I also have notice she is getting red welts across the top of her feet from pulling them too tight and when I talk to her about it she does not care. When I talk to her about her behavior she tunes me out is it ADHD or ODD hard to tell. As for nose picking I read an article before that it can be related to autism spectrum for Annette she does have all year round allergies and that has been the blame for the starting for when it is a bad allergy time is when it comes out more and the allergies listed in the article are the ones she is allergic to all of them. All we were told to do by the psychologist is make her demonstrate she knows how to use a tissue and hand her one and make her wash her hands. The allergist said to use saline solution. I do not know if I will ever get any answers.

Who did the testing on her for aspergers? With all your concerns and the way you keep finding that symptoms she has point to aspergers, I think you may want to take another look at the possibility. This will take you to the diagnostic requirements for aspergers so you can see how they compare to what you see in her. www.adhdandldsupport.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=autism&thread=674&page=1If you see enough to warrant wanting to check again, make sure you find a psych who is experienced in diagnosing aspergers vs autism. You also may want to look into NVLD. Do these sound like her? The first one has a lot to read but is very informative. www.udel.edu/bkirby/asperger/NLD_SueThompson.htmlwww.nldontheweb.org/Hopefully you can rule them out but its better to look at every possibility than to not be able to help her because you didn't follow the one clue you should have.

Her psychologist is the one who pulled out the DSM some of the symptoms do match Sensory but I do agree with you there has to be something more. I called the psychologist yesterday and when he called me back I was in the elevator with two wild boys on the way to doing a supervised visit and I could not answer it. Yes wild boys they are out of control a handful and I should feel somewhat guilty here for they both do have ADHD, ODD and fits of rage. It is different with them for their environmental factors play more dad out of control temper and possible DV going on, mom too many kid syndrome (4 altogether) and living off welfare and moving constantly and add no consistency. I say environment plays a big role here.
