I have posted on here a few times. Most recently I am looking at getting a 504 for next year. But at this time with only 4 weeks of school left I find myself getting so upset that I am sick to my stomach daily. I have spoken several times to my childs teacher (first grade), currently his medication is not consistent, one day good, another bad, one morning good, another bad, good afternoon, etc. We are waiting until the end of school to try another med. The teacher will not currently punish my child by taking away a full recess, BUT she sends home daily reports and I am noticing he is having a lot of trouble staying on task, finishing work, timely work, etc. Keep copies of all of these comments and grades. They will support his need for a 504. The problem is-- sometimes she will mark his paper completely wrong, instead of giving it back to him. She is making him miss music, part of recess, art, etc to finish uncompleted work. Sending him to in-school suspension to finish work. In order to receive a 504, you must prove that your child's disability severely interferes with a major life activity, and it sounds like it is, isn't it? Again, keep records of all of this. It will support your case. Now I know I dont have a 504 and cant enforce anything, but should I talk to the teacher again and ask her to please not make him miss out on activities to finish work? You can try, but she probably won't care. If she did, she wouldn't do these insensitive things. Try to keep a really positive attitude with your child, don't let him know that you're upset, tell him how much you love him, and document, document, document. She will also make comments on his daily report such as " Took too long, last one done, on simple phonic page" or at 10:00am in the morning she wrote" turned in unfinished work, NO Good Job Note today". It makes me literally ill that he is being treated this way and cant help it!! Please help! She should be hung and quartered! The best way to do this is to let her own words bite her in the butt. Keep copies of every single insulting comment she writes. Present the copies to the school when you discuss the 504, which will let them know that you are documenting them and have the originals. |

Straight A student. That is awesome. I guess that makes this alot more complicated than I imagined. Let us know how it pans out.
Noah went straight from Adderall to Vyvanse without complications. I hope this summer, things will get better and you will find something that works. Every med is diff for every person. You are in a pretty crappy situation. Since I didn't realize the situation, I guess I don't have any suggestions for you. Hang in there. ;D

Thanks lillian, I just told my dh the other day, this teacher is just giving me the fuel I need for my fire, and she doesnt even realize it. When they say , we dont know if he really needs these, I can say "Here I have daily outlines for his last 2 months of school from your own teacher that show he does!! Thats about the only positive thing I see with them!! And dimples, thats great to hear about the Vyvanse, we have always had good results with Ritalin and Concerta, and if it werent for school I wouldnt even be changing the Concerta because he does fine at home. He has done wonderful all year with it except until the past few months. I have read good and bad about Adderall, I know all kids are different with medicine, but I am clinging to the reviews I have seen that say it lasts longer and helps with more attention span than Ritalin. Once we make sure he is not allergic we can try the Vyvanse. I hope your son is doing well on it. It may be hard for us to tell until he starts school back in the fall, because like I said I dont see a problem at home, just at school. And his doctor says "Hey I would rather them make accommadations for him than to keep raising his meds" Me too!! I will keep you all informed.
