ARGH! Well, Shannon insisted on staying up too late last night as usual so she was a bear this morning. I made her get up at 8 to sit with Bill while I did the crossing guard job then she started on her school work. Nothing but problems! She said the math was too hard,.....that she hadn't even learned the stuff they had on there & she was completely lost. She hasn't received her English book yet so she couldn't do Any of the required reading or assignments. Her computer keeps freezing & it was frustrating her. I emailed her IS & she said the missing book should be here by tomorrow & she set Shannon up for math tutoring 3 times a week. I need to call tech support about the computer but it'll have to wait until tomorrow. We had a nurse, an aide, a PT & a speech therapist all here one after another today & now I need to get ready for work.

(((((Misty)))))) You're doing a great job taking care of everyone and organizing everything. I'm sure there will be glitches in the online schooling, as you get started with it. It will be O.K.
Did you go back to your old job?

Her IS should be pretty understanding about this. There are a lot of glitches all over the state this week, and it is expected that we will ALL have trouble. I have a computer that has no screen power at all, so I have to wait for the return shipping label from the school, and then wait for a new computer to come in. In the meantime, we were away on vacation, and didn't get any of the e-mail sent out requesting the scantrons to be done by last Friday, so we were working on that today. We still have to do the Getting Started for every class and the pretests as well.
Sleeping late is probably okay. Patrick usually gets more work done after 9 P.M. than he gets done all day up to that point. Shaun works for an hour, takes a 15 minute break, works for an hour, eats, works another hour, takes a break... and so on.
What English is Shannon taking? Because I found that most of Shaun's English work could be printed from the web site. I tried to get him to work in the car going to Cape Cod, but he slept instead.
Until you have some time to sit with her to go through things, have her work on another subject. If she does 5 history lessons and the mid unit assessment, that is the same as doing 1 hour of each other lesson, or split her day doing history and science and an elective.
I'd also see if the school will count her time in PT with her dad for PE time, because she is definitely getting exercise walking with him, helping him transfer, etc. and she is learning about health as well. If she doesn't have too many other things this semester, health might be an easy A for her to take!
And don't forget, a bad day at home is still better than a good day at school! She is learning more about life every day with her Dad than any school could ever teach her.
For tech support, just call the school. They take your name and number and will call you back later. Tell the receptionist that you have therapists coming and going, so it would be nice if the tech called you at a specific time. They are really friendly about that.

I had a math site that made it so much easier to understand than anything else I had found. I got rid of it when Jonathan finished homeschooling. I'll try to find it again so you can see if anything on it will help Shannon. Sometimes seeing things presented slightly different can make a huge difference for them.

Just wanted to send you ((((((((hugs))))))). I'm sure that everything will work itself out very soon. With Bill just getting home, people coming in and out, and Shannon getting her feet wet in cyber-school, you've got ALOT on your plate girl! I don't have any of the stressers you have and I'm giving myself a good month to get in the groove of homeschooling. Josh loves it, but I still feel I've got a long way to go to really feel comfortable with everything. If it makes you feel any better Josh fell asleep when I was reading to him this morning from his history unit. I couldn't believe it! We were all cozy on the couch and I'm reading along and I look over and he's snoring! (He did have a long holiday weekend, but geez). He also thinks that because he doesn't have to get up as early as he did for school that he can stay up longer and sleep in. It's just going to take some adjusting for them. I know things will get better. Give yourself a little breathing room. Your doing a great job with everything and it will all work out soon enough. Hugs....

I think it was a server issue. My cousin's daughter & another girl we know also do cyber school & they both had issues getting online yesterday. I told Shannon to wait until later today to do her work. When she went back on in the evening yesterday, everything was fine.
Trid, I already asked her IS about the PT & she said yes, that will count.
Barb, I'm interested in that math site if you find it.

Shannon's IS emailed me today....she's giving Shannon virtual tutoring in math 2 hours a week starting Monday. Thats a relief! Shannon got online fine this afternoon & completed all her work. She took breaks as needed in between. What a difference that makes to an inattentive child! I see none of the burnout she used to have at the end of a school day. The rest of her books came today & she said "Yay! my books are here, now I can finish my work!" and ran upstairs clutching them. I haven't seen her that excited about school since Kindergarten! LOL

I hope she stays excited now. I know Jonathan used to look for shows on tv that covered areas he was interested in. If he couldn't watch them then he would record them for later. I'd loved to see him taking some control over how he learned what he had to know.
