Anon, If I remember correctly the effects were pretty much immediate. He started out taking 2.5 mg. (he now takes 5mg 1X a day) I'm pretty positive that when he took the very first pill he got completely loopy. He was slurring his words and was just out of it. After seeing him that first night (the psych said to start off having him take it at night because of the possibilty of it making him tired) we were sure he would not be able to continue on this medication. But like I said these side effects did stop. As far as the positive effects we saw from the Abilify they came pretty quickly as well. So I do think it is possible for you to be seeing some effects from it already.

Ok, well I'm worried because if anything, he's been crying more. Usually he'll have a freak out and just be angry, but now there are tears coming down his face. I'm worried about depression. I'm going to try and talk to him a little bit today after lunch to see if he's feeling more sad than normal.
Ugh, I hate this. Why can't I have a super power to take away his hurt?

I hope this crying stuff goes away. It hasn't been that long so it could very well be the crying will stop. Each kid is so different when it comes to meds.
I wish I had super powers so I could zap you some super powers. Hugs.

I'm sorry he is going through this. Sean never had any depression like symptoms but like JJ said meds effect everyone differently. Hopefully it will stop after a few days. I wish I had more advice but we did not have these type of side effects.
Sending you hugs!

Anon...I'm sorry it didn't work out. I know it has to be so disappointing. Has your doc ever suggested Risperdal? You might have talked about it before, but I can't recall.
Big hugs to you...((((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))))))

My first visit with the pdoc - we ruled out every med because of his health issues and allergies. We went straight to lithium, and that's not cutting it for DS. So now the doc is trying all the meds we ruled out before. DH wants to do a detox.
I never hated a disease as much as I hate this one. And one of my rules in life, is: "hate is too strong of an emotion to waste your time and energy on." But I truly hate this, and it's exhausting me.
