Hello everyone. I'm Valerie. I have a 13 yr old with ADD. No hyperactivity. He lives with my ex-DH who does not have him on his meds. @@ He really only needs it to keep his grades up...he lacks focus, preparation, and organization without it. My 6 yr old was diagnosed with moderate to severe ADHD, ODD, and SID on February 18th. He has been on Focalin XR 5mg for 6 days now and I have seen SUCH a difference! Anyway, I have 4 children.....Jacqui is my only girl and will be 18 in July. She is my best friend and I'll miss her terribly when she goes to college in September (even hough she also lives with my ex-DH). Then I have three boys: DJ is 13, ADD, immature for his age, smart as heck, plays guitar and loves metal. Jeffrey (aka JJ) is the 6 yr old with ADHD, ODD, and SID. He is also HIGHLY intelligent. Reading at a late 2nd grade level. Loves dnosaurs and can tell you almost anything about them. He also plays t-ball and will try soccer this year. Then I have Jayson (aka Bubbie/Bub). He will be 5 in July. He is sweet, moody, cries over everything, and I think he might follow in Jeffrey's footsteps with ADHD. As I said, my older children live with my ex-DH (I've had some major stuff go on in the last year). Me and the little boys live with my SO, Mike, in South Jersey. I am almost 35 and a SAHM. I look forward to getting to know everyone and finding a great support group here (since AOHell closed the ADHD board this week ).

Welcome to the group Valerie! You will definitely get support & friendship here. My daughter Shannon is also a teen with ADD inattentive type. She is unmedicated & does pretty well although her organization skills are pretty much nonexistent. She'll be 15 in June. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better!

So glad you found us. I'm sorry you lost the site you used to go on but hopefully we'll make a good replacement. I'm kind of the "odd-gal out" as I am here because of my niece, 14 yrs.old, ADHD (probably ODD although not DX'd).
I had to chuckle at your son knowing everything there is to know about dinosaurs. He sounds adorable.
Anyway, welcome to the our group.

Yeah, DJ does ok, I guess, without his Metadate, but like I said...flaky, unorganized, and immature. LOL

Jeffrey is wonderful also, don't get me wrong.....just trying most of the time. Does anyone know if there is treatment for ODD?

I am an administrator of my own proboard for kids born in 2004 (if anyone has one and wants to join let me know!), but I don't have nearly as many subboards on my board. LOL

Hi! I've got an 11 year old with only a smart mouth and a 9 year old (both girls) with ADHD (HEAVY on the H)/ODD and LDs in language arts and math. There is no med for ODD per se. For us, although Megan was the mouthiest rudest kid I knew (how she made it to 6 before we got her diagnosed, I don't know!), once she was on meds for her ADHD, we found that she stopped being as mouthy. It's like her brain has enough to time to think - oh wait - that might not be a good thing to say now.... It doesn't work ALL the time...she's still very tactless sometimes....but it's getting better as she gets older. I've generally heard that behavioural therapy works well for ODD to teach the kids how to PROPERLY express themselves and how to stop and think and THEN speak.
