hello, I am new here and in my search to be a better mom. I have a 6yr old kid who was dx last summer. He is adhd and shows some ODD behaviors. He started treatment with Strattera as a first option since he has tic periods, so the doc said that stimulants would worsen them. I haven't been completely satisfied with this med due to mood issues, but it seems that I don't have too many options. My son is starting to progress nicely since he also has two kinds of therapies. He has social skills, which has helped tremendously, and also a tutor that helps him to get organized in school matters and daily routines. I usually hear many success stories as well as not so good stories with adhd. I want to be really optimistic and hope for his best. He attends a private school and this year has shown a good academic progress, only having trouble in the English language. We speak Spanish. I am planning on switching him of school for the next school year since his current one is highly demanding, and I have come to the conclusion that we also deserve some quality of life, so I have been investigating other good schools in my area. This is part of my story. I will let you know more as I post. Bye!!

I have a 7 yo son diagnosed 8 months ago by a neuro-psyche with slow cognitive processing and ADHD.
He has really improved in several areas over the past 4 months: socially, self-control, no more aggression (yeah!).
He has an IEP.
He's not medicated. He takes high-EPA fish oil, anti-oxidents, and a homeopathic remedy. He has OT therapy, a child therapist, and a social skills class.
I also have a 4 yo daughter.

notellin, What types of things are in your son's IEP? Its great that he has made progress. What do you consider to be the most effective interventions? Would you mind creating a thread on it in the ADHD board?

First I want to say hello to all the new members. A warm welcome to all of you. As for me, my name is Dee and I've been on this website for a year?? CG, help me out here. I was on another website before I knew of this one and a member on that website referred me to this one. As soon as I found this website I never felt more at home and am so thankful to be here with all of these wonderful friends I've made. As most of you know, both Becca and I have ADD. I have not been formally diagnosed but Becca was diagnosed about 3 years ago. Though I was not formally diagnosed myself, I told the doctor some of my history and he said I displayed many of the characteristics of ADD. Thankfully, Becca does not seem to struggle nearly as much as I did. She is on a 504 plan in school and for the most part is doing well. I am so thankful for this website and I have recieved so much support and advice. I only hope I can give back to others some of the great help and friendship I have received here.
