Here we go again. Same problem already that we were dealing with at the end of last year on the 1st day of school where Sean has homework. Writing down homework in the planner which has to be copied off the board. I specifically had put in the IEP that the teacher needs to check and sign what Sean writes to make sure it is legible and correct because Sean cannot remember what it means when I can't read it. I also requested that he have a copy at his desk.Today his planner says "redmin." Which means nothing to me and he has no idea. I have to call my friend who's daughter is in the class(Thank goodness because last year they were in different classes) and she tells me it means Read for 20 minutes. The best part is the teacher signed it! I also requested he have a checklist and the teacher makes sure he has what he needs when he leaves school. It also says in his planner "cover math book" but there is no book. He had no idea where it was or even that he had to bring it home. He said he copied that sentence off the board but had no idea what it said. AARRGGHH!!

Oh, KK...I'm sorry its already starting. My first thought was that maybe the teacher hasn't read his IEP in full. She may have signed his planner, but she may be signing everyones planner. Not that thats any excuse, she obvisously didn't really LOOK at what he wrote. I know when Josh was in third grade, the teacher stamped everyone's planner just to see if it was done, but I know she didn't check the writing to see if it was ledgable and what the content was. I think I would shoot an e-mail to her and just see if she is clear on what you need her to do. I wouldn't be confrontational or anything, just make it clear that in order for you to help Sean in his studies, she needs to pull her end of the IEP. I know teachers are overwelmed and have limited time, but if all the things you mentioned are in Sean's IEP, they need to be addressed. If she's already letting things slip through the cracks, who knows what will be next. By the way, was this particular teacher in on his IEP meeting last year? She may have no idea of what Sean's all about or what his needs are. Just wondering...and hugs to you. Welcome back to the Jungle. Arrrggggg.

She was there-she took a ton of notes and had some great suggestions. I was actually pretty impressed with her.

During a parent teacher conference not all teachers know a child's disability but should be aware of IEP if not the Special Ed or Consultant teacher does know. My girl has a regular teacher and a consultant teacher.

Next IEP meeting have it written in the plan the teacher is to e-mail you the homework or write it down for your son for once in a plan they have to abide by it.

Obviously, the teacher just signed and didn't really look. Hopefully it is that the teacher is just overwhelmed right now and will get down to a routine with the kids that have IEP's. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thats what I blame it on JJ. Since that day things have been good. I can tell from things that she has been doing that she still has the notes she took at the IEP meeting and is following through with them.
