I am a mom of 5. My 14 year old sone has adhd and odd along with depression. He has behavior problems at school almost on a daily basis. It is difficult to deal with but it is wroth it because of the lessons I am taught everyday. This morning he woke up and asked if it was cold outside. I said, "I haven't been out yet." He opened the door and stepped out onto the porch. Then he walked inside and said "it is a beautiful day. The birds are chirping!" It is amazing that a special needs child can see some of the purest, simplest, and most beautiful things that we fail to see or hear each day. These are constant reminders to slow down and take a breath. Despite our obstacels life will go on. IT IS NOT HOW HEAVY THE LOAD IS. IT IS HOW WE CHOOSE TO CARRY IT THAT COUNTS! Even thought there are times we want to scream and yell and run away from it all we know as mothers deep in our hearts that all we are striving for is fairness, equality, dignity, opportunity and most of all love for our special needs children. I am thankful for the oppportuntiy to raise a special needs child because it has given me much insight. It has taught me love, patience, understanding, devotion, and determination along with so many other things. I have learned to be coach, teacher, referee, counselor, judge, friend, mother, chaufeur, activities director, advocate, nurse, enemy, and even gained the superpower of being invisible. Okay maybe not actually but i do feel I am invisible at times. I would no ttrade it for anything in the world.
