I am collating ADHD stories where a child's behaviour has made you stop and go - wow or hmmm or fark or grrrr any and all would be welcome...

its a creative thing I am up to here :wink:

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for.

Like the fact that my daughter NEVER remembers to flush the toilet? Eveytime I go to the bathroom after her I sure go ARGH! I mean, shes 12 already! She should know to flush.

When she was 4 & we were getting the dog nuetered the following day I found her sitiing for a LONG time just staring at the dog (He was sleepig on his back). I asked her what she was doing & her reply was "I'm waiting for the balls to turn into puppies"...Ok, that one made me CRACK UP!

This past year I helped her type up a story she wrote & had a "WOW" moment when I read the final draft..it was AMAZING for a girl her age.


I had a feeling of pride when she stood up in 2nd grade & told the rest of the class to quit picking on the one boy "Because its whats inside that counts" (he was a very LARGE boy).

I had a "What the heck" moment when she spent hours one day in her room "cleaning"....When I went to see the end product she had made her entire room into a jungle! Paper leaves hung everywhere, EVERY stuffed animal she owned was strategically placed throughout the room, perched om every available surface & she had lugged the old fake Fica tree from the basement & dusted every leaf!

When my son was in preschool, they were doing construction next door on a new building. My son's teacher told me she was amazed. He knew every piece of equipment and what it was used for. He would point new ones out and tell her what they would be doing next using that, and be right. She was most impressed when he explained what the auger is and how it works.

He was fascinated with construction equipment and would have anyone he could get to read, read him anything he could get his hands on about it. I didn't realize just how much he knew and understood myself until then.

Oh yeah! Barbspost reminded me of something else. Shannon has been watching Animal planet since she could talk. She devours books on animals too. That child can tell you anything you want to know about animals! And BUGS (ew)! She amazes me! She knows of animals I never even heard of!

I am trying to write a story for the agegroup of approx 7-9 for children with ADHD and their siblings to read - just a little story book. It has to have a positive side to it atm but Its just turning into a vent and pregnant dog moment for me lol...

I have to turn the story around and am stuck for ideas.

its pretty crap so far... so I guess I will just keep chipping at it till i like it.

Hmm. I'm not sure what you are looking for, but with the age group you mention, I wonder if you are interested in the way ADHD kids act in school? I'm thinking something like the way their cluttered and messy desks look in comparison to other kids', their difficulties remembering to bring home books or assignments, their difficulties remembering to turn things in, their wanting to be first in line. In life away from school, I'm thinking of their open hearts, which often shows in their desire to help kids and animals in need, their messy bedrooms, their sleep issues that often manifest in staying up long after everyone else has gone to sleep, their attraction to video games...

Is this the kind of stuff you're looking for, like you're trying to create an ADHD character? Or are you looking for actual stories to tell, like Chicken Soup type stories?

A little late, but here's a few stories for ya. One thing my daughter used to do when she was in pre-K I'll never forget. It was the last month of school and she got so bored at circle time that she decided to take a tour of the room all by herself. Not only did she do this one day, but decided every day would be fun. Well, the teachers weren't exactly thrilled and I had to come in with her every day to keep an eye on her until the end of the school year just so she could graduate from Nursery School. Imagine that, almost expelled from Nursery School, LOL. The best one was when she was in first grade and her teacher told me that my daughter had said to a little boy that he had a pi** poor attitude. I swear she didn't hear that one from me. I was mortified. I'm sure you can find a more appropriate rendition for your book of course LOL. One annoying thing she does is bang or tap on something relentlessly when she is bored, to bug me. Another fun thing she's done is to leave a trail of dirty clothes in the bathroom for Mom to pick up. We're working on straightening that out now that I have a little bit more time to try to curb some bad habits. Those are just a few of those little fun things she's done that drive me crazy. Really all in all she's a good kid. Hope she doesn't see this LOL. Hope this helps with your book. Can we get a little sneak peek when your done? I know you'll do a great job. Dee

For what it's worth . . . When Sean was about 7 or 8 I caught him once opening and closeing the 'frig door. Every time he would open it he would see the light on and say ''Yep, it's still on''. ROFLOL !

Or embarrassing moments although it can be a kid thing too. This summer at the pool I could not go in that time of month my husband told her "aunt flo" so she went up the the guy lifeguard and told him and I stared at the ground wanting to melt into the pavement.

When Josh was a couple of years younger, he always had a hard time reciting exactly what he had heard in the same words. He would sit and think about it and then come up with a different way to say it...it was such a riot. Anyway my favorite incident was after we got our new puppy, Lilly. When she was about six months old she came into her first heat. Anyway, I had to explain what was happening. I told him that Lilly was "In Heat" and female dogs do this every six months, blah, blah, blah. He had tons of questions and just went on about it for days. Then one night my Dad came over and he wasn't two steps in the door and Josh comes running down the hallway yelling, "Papa, Papa! Guess what? Lilly's on FIRE! My Dad just stood there looking at him like What the heck? I then had to explain to him that Lilly was "IN HEAT". My Dad and myself were just in hysteric's. Josh just stood there looking at us like WE were crazy. That was 3 years ago and we still laugh about it. Now when Lilly goes into heat we say she's on FIRE!

This is a nasty one! Impulsivity is Sean's middle name,if he 's going to do something he does not think he just does. This may explain why he picked up a disgusting dead squirrel and played with it. I mean I can understand a kid poking at a dead animal with a stick but he carried it into our yard and played with it!!!!! When he came in the house he said "I saw a dead squirrel" My response was"you didnt touch it did you?" His answer-"well just the tail...and the stomach....and I picked it up and brought it in the yard" EEEEWWWWWW After I sanitized him I scared him to death about rabies and other diseases. That night he came down from bed and said he didnt feel good and what are the symptoms of rabies. LOL I dont think he'll touch anymore dead animals.

I love my ds´s inquiring mind, he want´s and need´s to find out EVERYTHING..... When he was 8y, he could explain how a sylinder(in motor) work´s, he amazed his theacher(lady) be explaining from point to point how the fuel explodes in sylinder and make´s it work(or however it work´s, dont ask me lol). He know´s about evolution, different era´s of our world and lot´s of lot´s more, I love that

I think Rae has a great idea, this is going to be a good book!!!
