This was written just for us by Jake, Puzzled's 13 year old son! He is a wonderful writer and really helps us understand what its like to be the older brother of an ADHDer, and to see it from his point of view.

Living with a brother with ADHD is rough. If I say one thing, he overreacts too fast. Also, since we are brothers, its worse. Just yesterday, I was playing around by playing with his little etch a sketch and he blew up on me. He exaggerates things. He is very LOUD!! I almost don’t like being around him because our personalities clash. But when we get along well together, we have lots of fun….I just have to be very careful of what I say and do.
Another thing that bothers me is that I get good grades at school and always have. My parents just seem to expect it. They never have to remind me to do homework, or ask if I turned it in. I just do it. But when Chase does his homework, it is usually after Mom has reminded him, checked on him, and helped him get it done. So if he DOES remember to do it on his own, she praises him all over. When he started to get good grades after he started his medicine, she was so proud of his grades, and I wondered if she was as proud of mine. Deep down I know that she is, but still. Last grade card time we had a party to celebrate both of our good grade cards, and that was cool. Just cake and going out for pizza and a movie, but cool.
I do feel sorry for him that he has to take all of those pills day and night, but Mom says that they help him and he would love to trade places with me if he could. So I try to be patient with him, but it is very hard to do sometimes.
It is a big responsibility. That is what Mom tells me.

Thank you Jake!
Puzzled also has a daughter who grew up with an older ADHD sister. She is going to write an article about that for us when she gets time. She is in college and of course her education must take priority.
