Shannon has an appointment with the psychiatrist in an hour. This is her 2nd appointment (she goes to a therapist there but only has seen the psych twice) and tonights appointment is to get her on an anxiety med. I admit I was reluctant about medicating, but I'm gonna have her give it a try. Her anxiety is mostly social anxiety & I'm afraid it will keep her from having a fulfilling life. She's terrified to get a job, speak in front of others, even go into a store all by herself & I'm really starting to see how debilitating its becoming. Wish us luck.

Meds can make all the difference. I am doing much better with anxiety on meds. I'm glad you are giving her this opportunity to have a better life.

Misty...your doing the right thing. Anxiety is so hard to live with, especially when they want to do certain things and just can't. We medicated years ago and I don't know what we would have done at the time if we didn't. It can be so helpful and can help them grow stronger. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks everyone! The anxiety didn't become an issue until this year. At school, she is expected to do more things independently & present projects to large groups....she never had to do that before. Plus I expect her to get a job & this is terrifying her. Just trying to get her to run into a store to grab something paralyzes her. I really want her to have a full life & be able to participate in things without being fearful. She wants to do things like learn to drive & get a job so hopefully the meds will help. She starts Zoloft today, then has a follow up with the psychiatrist (who is SUCH a nice, caring, personable guy) in 3 weeks to see how she's adjusting.

aw,thanks Bugsmom. She's doing pretty well with it. The 1st few days it made her really tired, but her body seems to have gotten used to it. She told me yesterday that she does notice a little difference in that she's not as anxious to do things outside of her comfort zone. That she's going to that workshop today where she knows no one but her teacher says a lot. I was really surprised that she didn't come up with some excuse not to go (which normally she would have).
