This article addresses the symptoms of depression & the difference in symptoms between ADHD & non ADHD children. "Above all, learn to understand, listen to and I mean really listen to your ADHD teenager in hopes that you will spot these symptoms and signs of depression and avoid the bad times that can follow. Thanks so much for that post Misty. Interesting that it was the first one I saw when I popped in. I've had a really bad week. So sorry I haven't been around. I had an Anxiety attack over the weekend and a biopsy of an oral lesion on Monday. I should get the results by today. The Dentist thinks it should be fine but I was upset and not myself so sorry I haven't been around. So glad for the post.

Wow .. Misty!! ... a very interesting article ! My 19 year old son was diagnosed with depression at age 13 ... my happy go lucky son (or at least he had been until then) suddenly became not happy and go lucky at all !! We were lucky ... because his depression was NOT severe ... and it was NOT inducing any suicidal tendencies ... but it still wasn't a nice time!! ... My son could only tick about two of the boxes listed ... one being learning disabilities and one being having anxiety issues ... the rest of those listed were not applicable to him personally ... the reason given by the psychiatrist/psychologist to us for his depression was "years of having his self-esteem damaged at school" ... because he always struggled !! ... ... and to this day I blame the school for that damage to his self-esteem ... but that a whole other story !! ... The good news is that depression IS generally treatable ... We never ever went the medication route with the doctor but instead went with St johns Wort ... which for Sam was JUST wonderful ... it gave him a so much easier 14+ time than I believe he would have got otherwise ... the symptoms lifted noticeably within a few days ... HOWEVER ... St Johns Wort does NOT work for everyone ... and if there is any bipolar present then it is definitely a NO NO ! .. So I am in no way advocating SJW as a "cure all" for all !! These days at nearly 20 ... and having had his self-esteem boosted hugely in the past few years ... from doing well at college, working at something he enjoys etc.etc. the only thing he takes nowadays is a multi vitamin tablet ... So ... please don't despair if your child is depressed ... but also please don't ignore it ..
