Chase's grade card came home today and it is all A's! This is the first time since 1st or 2nd grade that he has done this! In 3rd grade when more seatwork was demanded of him, he began to falter. Once he started meds, he has done quite well, getting one or two B's each time, and we were proud of him, but to have straight A's is an amazing feat for him, he often begins to 'forget' to do assignments, or turn them in late....you all know the drill I am sure.
But this year, he seems to really be in his groove, excited to get things done and done correctly. He has been proactive about getting his science fair report done, contacting the science teacher and arranging to stay after school one day a week and have her help him to get it done. I was extremely nervous when he signed up for science fair since it is a project that goes on for the long haul, and long term projects have always been his nemesis, what with breaking it down into smaller increments and making sure to work on it consistently. But he has been a real trooper, writing up the report (so far) long hand and badgering me one night a few weeks ago to type it up for him on my computer....it was over 6 pages typed so far, he needs 10 and still needs to explain his experiment and results...what he had was explanation and background on the topic.
I am just so proud of him I could burst!
He had been saying that he wanted to go back to the ritalin LA if possible, but I don't want to mess with success. His main complaint about the dexedrine is the fact that it affects his appetite at lunch time. I am hoping to show him that less of an appetite at lunch time is okay as long as he eats well at other times.
