Sickening. But not uncommon or surprising. It's so easy to do-especially when a child is non-verbal. I lived it. I saw it first hand. I lost my job for bringing it to the attention of administration, DYFS, and the parent of the child who was being abused. The teacher who was the abuser still has her job. But I don't regret it for one minute, looking back I would do it all over again. My students mother immediately took her out of that school and now she is safe.

That bit about the autistic kid being confined for 2 1/2 hours and being taunted about what he was missing just makes me sick. How could anyone be so cruel. I'm glad someone is looking into this. Something needs to be done. All it takes is one incident that can ruin a child's outlook on education/schooling/authority figures for the rest of his or her life.
KK, I remember you telling us about that and I can't tell you how impressed I am that you put your job on the line for that child. I wish more people would do that.

I'm not surprised. Kids who don't fit the mold have always been treated badly around here although I've never heard of any child being disciplined that severely in this area.
I'm glad the government is stepping in. Hopefully whatever law they come up with will have enough teeth to make school personnel comply.
