So, here we are, 5 months into the school year and I've finally convinced Josh that he needs a 504 for high school. I really wanted to wait and let him feel his way through the first couple of months, but I knew that he was going to need a little extra help in taking tests. Since the beginning of the year he has bombed so many tests. He studies his butt off for hours, and then gets so much anxiety about it that he rushes and fails. He knows the material, he's just has the hardest time with written tests! He doing fantastic otherwise, he's final getting all his assignments in, gets great grades on those. It's just the tests. I contacted his academic advisor and she quickly contacted the special ed department, and the dean of students, and after looking at his grades and talking to his advisor (who is also one of his teachers) they suggested he get a 504 in place right away. All his tests will be given orally and he can have as much time as he wants. I'm so thrilled that they've all been so helpful. We still have to meet, but I feel so good about it. He's never had a 504 or an IEP, so I thought it would be a fight. Not at all, they see what a great student he's been and they want him to succeed. I'm so happy I chose this school!

That is wonderful! I'm so happy it didn't have to be a battle to get it.
