This is a great article about why our kids may be having problems with things in school that seem so simple to us. Its rather lengthy, but I found definite things that directly relate to my son and specific difficulties he is having. Its a great, informative read.

If you believe every child can learn—and the evidence strongly supports this—then if the students don’t learn, the school must change. It’s that simple. If the students don’t learn, the school must change. Bill Gates

This is awesome... I want to make copies and give it to every single teacher at my son's boarding school! They orient the student body for 6 weeks at the beginning of the year, but the new students in January are clueless. Michael just told me that he knows where the restroom is in his dorm building, and he knows there is one in the infirmary, but he doesn't know where they are in any of the class buildings or in the cafeteria! Nobody told him where he is supposed to have specific articles of clothing... and he forgot to lock his locker last week, so his building officer took the lock and put his own on it. Michael didn't change his socks or underwear for 3 days because they were all locked up! Even his inhaler was in there (thank goodness he didn't have an asthma attack while that officer was off campus for 8 hrs. Tuesday night).
I never really considered that Michael would be "lost", but this was pretty eye-opening. When I started asking him about specific things discussed, he confirmed the author's theories!
So, I am sending the link to the building officer in the hopes that he can give the boys a clue. I know Michael isn't the only one who is "new", and his grades are proving that he isn't oriented yet, nearly 3 months later!
Thanks for the bump on this thread!
