I'm glad yours went well Losty.
All the teachers were very nice and very affirming. They all discussed how hard ds had worked to get caught up by the end of marking period and how impressed they were at the progress he had made even though they all felt he would have been at the top of the class instead of the bottom if he had been showing up every day and doing his homework.
All the teachers said he participated in class and impressed them with his questions and comments. One teacher actually told Jonathan that she was very impressed with how insightful he was and how he understood complexities that most of the other kids wouldn't be able to understand for years yet.
They actually asked him how they could help him when he had something wrong and it needed to be pointed out so it didn't make him feel like the other kids would think he was stupid. I pointed out that some criticism was necessary and one of his teachers explained that since he was there to learn there was no way he wouldn't have some things wrong at times.
What surprised me was that they all felt he had a better grasp of what they were teaching than most of the class did. The kept telling him over and over that if he would show up on time and do his homework, he would easily find himself a top student.
They are going to e-mail me if he has work backing up. They also discussed scheduling specific days and times when he and each teacher had free time so he could know when he was sure to be able to ask for help from each teacher.
They are such a breath of fresh air after what we have gone through in the past. I actually feel hopeful for him now and I had about given up.
His health teacher told me she believes he is suffering from severe anxiety and he should have counseling to help him learn to control it. The others agreed. That is the first time in his life that anyone from the school admitted he may have anxiety. Finally!
