Finally had my meeting today! It went wonderfully. Shannon will be put in mainstream Lit.art classes, but they will monitor her & she's allowed to go to them any time she needs to. She so far surpassing her goals in Lit. art spec. ed classes that they feel its a disservice to her to keep her in spec. ed. for them. All her teacher raved about her creativity & the wonderful stories she writes!
She will stay in support for math...she still has a long way to go there.
They are still working on organizational issues & her PSSA tests will be taken in the support room.
Her science grade is really slipping. Her teacher quit for personal reasons & theres a new teacher who Shannon says is really boring. I just know she's zoning out. Her support teacher is going to observe & see if she can find some ways that Shannon can bring that grade up.
She starts transitional services this year also, which will follow her through HS & help guide her toward a career. They have a great program where the kids can sign up for field trips & guest lecturers pertaining to different careers & they have many hands on sessions planned.
All in all, I'm happy with the support teachers she has this year & her IEP. They wrote out her goals for this year & into 8th grade & they all sound perfect.

Yippee for you and Shannon. I'm so glad you don't have to kick, scratch and beg for the things you feel she needs. And I'm glad for Shannon as it sounds like they are doing everything they can to help her suceed. I love this good news.

Thanks, everybody. There are so many things I don't like about our school district, but I must say their special education department is NOT one of them. They really go out of their way to ensure that each child is truly getting what he or she needs & they really seem to CARE.
