Awww, Rae..don't cry! I know its hard, but hopefully you'll see a change for the better when he's on it & if not & its not for him, you can always take him off of it. nothing is forever. Please let us know how he does.

my son use to take risperdal... it worked really good ... man i wish he could go back on it... but it caused him to gain alot of weight and it also caused him to drool really bad...good luck and keep us posted...

My daughter takes it at night, it helps her fall asleep when the stim wears off and it makes her eat at night and really good in the morning. Her stim makes her not want lunch at all and I was worried she would lose alot of weight but she makes up for it snacking at night and eating a big breakfast. she has not lost or gained. and boy has she woke up in a better mood since shes been on it.

thanks guys after drinking a whole heap of wine last night and bawling my eyes out I feel a little more positive today.
I do believe it will be helpful for him, at the end of the day we just want our kids happy dont we? if that can give him that I will be happy too.
sweetnsilly - i hve been told to give it to him in the morning - does it make them sleepy?
Wonder if it matters whether its morning or afternoon.
anyway he starting with only a 1/4 of a tablet once a day.
and wow about the drooling thing! I was told there are some possible freaky side affects. will keep an eye on him.
thanks to you all again.
love

well i whiled away my day today taking my emotions out on the computer and created a forum for Australian ADHD'ers. I dont know how it will go - but if I can get it going I might finally have all the resources I need. I would dearly like to have a support group within my community for me and damian, and that way we can meet other people (in real life) for him to play with. He doesnt know many kids who need tablets so i would like an opportunity for him to meet others. this might be an avenue. anyway guys tell me what you think. Also misty you may like a redirection back to here - who knows an american might pop in that needs to come this way.

Rae...when I seen the title of your post I had a flashback to this past April when it was suggested that my son go on Risperdal. I agonized for weeks over it, cried a million tears, and finally decided to give it a try. I have to say it has been a god send in my son's case. It didn't change his personality in any way, it just took away that consant anxiety and edge off him. Just remember, you can always take him off if it dosen't help. One draw back is weight gain. My son gained over 20 pounds since April. I know that's horrible but I have my happy kid back and he's now playing basketball and dropping those extra pounds. Anyway...I just wanted to let you know that I know exactly how you feel. Your not alone...I know its a scary step. I hope it works out as well for your son as it has for mine. Please keep us updated on the results. Good Luck!
