OK I may be grasping at straws but I have a thought. I was thinking back last night about when Sean's behavior started changing, when he went into the "depressed mode". I realized that it really intensified about the time he started using inhaled Pulmicort for asthma. He has been on this since November. Im thinking this could possibly effect his sleeping also. It does say rare effects are depression, anxiety, irritability, so maybe if he was already having some issues this could intensify them. I really didnt see much about the sleep issues but its a thought. Starting today I did the nebulizer in the morning and next week he has an allergist appt. and I am going strongly suggest he be taken off this medication. Has anyone or your child ever taken inhaled steroids and did you have any side effects?

Ah shoot Katiekat,
For the life of me I can't remember why we took Mom off Pulmicort. She was prescribed it for a brief time and it was during a lot of med changes and at the time Mom was living with my BIL so I am not sure what side-affect there was but there was one.
Mom doesn't remember either. I'll give my BIL and/or her old doc a call later today to see if they made any notes about it.
Darn, I'm so sorry I can't remember but she WAS taken off it for a reason.

Katiekat,
I didn't have any luck finding out why my Mom was taken off Pulmicort but when you think about it, Pulmicort's key ingredient is a steriod and steriods can indeed cause all kinds of problems including depression, mania, and insomnia.
I've also been reading on other message board with people stating they were taking different types of steriods as in shots or even in cordisone and not sleeping were big issues with them.
You may be on to something there.

KK Jake has pulmicort respules. His Dr. perscribed them 2 years ago and they were expensive, so we could not afford to keep him on them twice a day. So the Dr. agreed that once in the evening was fine. ( I am regemented to death) He hadn't had an attack in 9 months so we took him off completely, he also takes cingulair and zyrtec for a wide spectrum of reasons. Which include his asthma. Anyways Jake was put back on pulmicort at the end of July beginning of August. It's hard to gage he gets anxious and he misbehaves a lot. I took him back off of it in January and I can't say I have seen a difference in his behavior but I can say he is not as whiny When he didn't get where he wanted to stand in line at the bus stop or if he had to eat vegatables. I haven't heard that so much I hope it helps. I know with that med you have to be very carefull taking him off or putting him on so good luck

I am now thinking that the Pulmicort is not the problem as I guess I was hoping it was. For the past few days I've been thinking maybe he does have ADHD and the medicine is causing the other problems. BUT then last night I started reading Danielle Steel's biography of her son who was bi-polar(before he killed himself) and as I read about his behavior from infancy to a young child my heart sank into my stomach. It is so similar to Sean's behavior. It just got more depressing the older he got. Im so worried about the future. He is still not sleeping and everyone keeps asking whats wrong with his eyes? They are black from not sleeping. I spent 3 hours on the phone today trying to find a psychiatrist. NO LUCk! This is ridiculous. I called every one within a 30 mile radius and they either dont take our ins, or they dont see kids,or they are not accepting new patients right now try back in a month. I dont know what to do at this point.

Katiekat,
I'm so sorry for your frustration and worry.
This may be a dumb question but have you checked with a University Hospital or a Children's hospital for a psychiatrist or neuro-psych?
I'm also going to call my sis. She is getting help through some organization and for the life of me I can't think of the name of it and I think they can pull some strings and make things easier on you. At least I hope.

Katiekat I have a silly ? and I just want to ask it so it is not looked over. Did you call your Insurance company and ask them for the names of Dr.'s in your area that are covered by your Insurance? It could be simple. I hope Personally my insurance is BCBS and I'm in a site which is a network of Dr.s out of one hospital. If I needed a specialist in my site and they didn't have one my Dr. would refer me to another Dr. in another site or I could jump out of my current site into another one (usually it takes 30 days but if it is a medical emergency that can't wait 30 days they bump through effective immediatly) Now the other thing I wanted to say to you, I had a really bad ADHD fun filled day All day long. I can't say I know what you are going thru but I can say I know what it feels like to have those doubts and hesitations about my sons health and the second guessing yourself. is not worth it At the end of today when you lay down your head remember one thing you are a great mom for caring. You have the most beautiful wonderful child you have ever seen and no one can ever take that away from you. There's one more thing you should be thankful for and when I get upset bawling in the car about all the medicine, troubles, and money I stop myself and tell myself.... he's not terminally ill and there is hope for tommorow. These thoughts help me go on and I hope it helps you too.

I did check with 2 area hospitals that have Pediatric Behavioral Health programs but neither take our insurance. The first thing I did was call the ins. company and get some names(about 10) and those are the ones that are not accepting new patients and/or do not see kids. We have United Healthcare and it sucks apparently. I did find 3 names on the link you posted JJ that I have not seen before so Im going to check them out but they probably dont take our ins. since they did not show up on the list from the ins. co. I still have 2 Dr.s to try that were not in yesterday and one more hospital program but after that Im clueless. Thanks for your all your suggestions . I guess I'll just keep plugging along.

Katiekat, If you don't have any luck with those other names call your insurance company and tell them their list is getting you no-where and they need to add more to psych's to their list. Tell them you need someone NOW! They just may try to help you out.
