What does anyone know about Lexapro? This is what the psychiatrist prescribed for Tiff's anxiety. I haven't filled it yet, until I do more research on it.

Uni, my Mom is on Lexapro and it seems to work well. No side affects that I have noticed so far. I know it is different for little kids but not a lot. My Mom is tiny so....
But it has really improved her axiety. I was very nervous about giving it to her let me tell you (I needed Lexapro to calm me when I was making the decision, LOL)....but I'm happy I did.

Thanks Lillian & JJ. I looked at the article Lillian. The one article that I have seen so far and of course can't find right now to quote from, states that the FDA hasn't approved Lexapro for use in children yet. That is freaking me out about that. I am glad that it works so well for your mother JJ. I still need some more data before I will fill and give her the prescription.

That would scare the heck out of me too seeing it wasn't approved for kids. I don't blame you at all doing the research first. I know I did.

I've been on Lex for about 2.5 yeers [or years as the upper crust would say it- LoL], the 2o mg made me to wonky so I take 1/2 of it a day & it seems to work OK for me.

Uni I was on Lexapro for a year and a half. I took myself off when my kids meds were more improtant to have. I personally thought it was great I stopped to enjoy things I had never thought about like fall leaves. It also stopped me from being so snippy. I saw a huge difference right away for example I was waiting for someone to come get me because our old car broke down normally I would already be wound up tight like a ball of yarn. While I waited Jake pulled the mirror off the window and I didn't even bat an eye I just said oh will get it fixed, and smiled the whole time. That was in the first three days of taking it. The only thing that bothered me was I was afraid of building a tolerence or needing a larger dose which never did or needed.

thanks john & crazyhorse. Tiff psychologist just about talked me into trying it. It is only going to be 2.5mg that she will be taking. She told me that she trusts the psychiatrist with her own life and she did tell me about some of the good things it could be for her. I did at least get the prescription filled tonight, so I will try it with her tomorrow.

It never hurts to do all the research and to be very percautious in monitering her during the first few days. Just to be safe I don't remember having any side effects at all and I am the side effect queen I don't usually read the label that way I know for sure I'm not imagining things I tell my husband to and then I tell him throughout the day. If it is severe enough he decides whether I should get off of meds or go to the hospital (med allergies) So things to keep in mind I hope it helps Good Luck

I will indeed be watching her. Just right now she is in school and I don't know how she is at the moment, but will be able to see over the weekend.
