Shannon took Clonidine to help with ADHD related sleep issues. It worked great with no discernible side effects. I took her off it though because I just wasn't comfortable having her on a blood pressure med to sleep. It does make them VERY tired so whether you are using it to sleep or for general ADHD its best given at night (or at least after school so they can nap). Shannons Dr wanted her in every week to check her BP since it IS, in a stronger dose, given to adults to control BP. My mom's a nurse so I just had her check it a couple times a week. After a few months we had to increase her dose as it became ineffective at the lowest dose. It was at that point that we decided to wean her off it. One other thing....its not recommended that you ever skip a dose, as it CAN cause a spike in their blood pressure. And if you decide to stop giving it, they must be weaned off it.
I don't know anything about Risperdal, sorry, but others here do. I'm sure they'll chime in.

Well I googled them both and they both have side effects that involve the heart like rapid heart beat. Now I dont know what to do...I really believe medication is our only hope at this point but Im not willing to risk his life. I guess I have to talk to the cardiologist.

Clonidine was prescribed by one doctor when 10mg Ritalin was too little and 15mg was too much (either that or 15 and 20, I can't remember which) he was also having sleep problems and so it helped there. In retrospect it was too much clonidine and he lost his spark, altho the doc didn't think so. We ended up moving, changing doctors and stopping the clonidine except for evenings. For similar reasons as misty, I was always uncomfortable with him taking it. He later stopped it and used melatonin.
