I just brought Megan to her new psychiatrist (this is only our second appointment). I was thinking of possibly (and still may in the future, but we'll play it by ear) changing doctors as I got a snotty attitude from the secretary yesterday when I asked if I had to bring Megan in as we were just getting a refill prescription and it was her school's play day today....snottily, I was told that YES, SHE was the patient...well, no kidding you rocket scientist....so whatever...I told Megan I'd take her to McD's which went over well with her.
So anyways...she's on 15mg Adderall XR and that is going really well (she got 4 A's on her last report card and pretty much before that, the last 2 cards were almost straight D's - but only because they can't give F's in grade 1....quote from her teacher). But I've been hearing so many good things about Tenex and how it helps with ODD symptoms that I wanted to try it. Her pediatrician darn near had a heart attack when I asked for it a few months back, so that's why I looked around for a psychiatrist. This doctor, in our 10 minute first appointment with Megan last month, had no issues with prescribing 1mg. Well, I saw zilch from it. That child still talks back like a 14 year old with PMS. She will tell her father in the snottiest of tones (and she's lucky she's still alive), I'm not TALKING to YOU! You can imagine how well THAT goes over!!!
So today, the doctor, instead of increasing the dosage of Tenex, suggests increasing her Adderall XR to 20mg. She felt that that might help a bit more with her ODD symptoms, especially since she has no sleep problems. OK, what the heck...let's give it a shot...maybe 15mg isn't her optimum dosage....and then the psych says that they're starting a new drug trial with something called Vynase and would we be interested? Oh man....WOULD we??? I had printed out the drug information for medical providers yesterday from the www.vyvanse.com website to take to her to ask her about it and whether they could start prescribing it yet!!!! YES we want in the drug trial.
So we spoke to the trial coordinator. It should start within 2 weeks...but here's my glitch. The girls are going to my mom's for a whole month and will be too far away to take Megan to the doctor's weekly. So the coordinator said she was going to see if there was a way to get us in a bit earlier and cut it short a tad.....OMG....I'm so excited!!! I was sooo psyched about this new drug when they talked about it at the roundtable!!!
Now if only our summer schedule will work out....sigh....always a monkey wrench to get in my plans....I swear that sometimes I could screw the world's fair (one of my father's favourite expressions!). Keep your fingers crossed for me (and Megan, of course!).
