Today the psych would not give me a RX for meds because she wants something from the cardio. saying it's ok. Which I find funny since a month ago she was willing to let my h sign a waiver saying Sean could take meds regardless of what the cardio said. The cardio. wont write up anything for the psych and said in a month we can get a copy of what she is sending the pediatrician and give one to the school nurse and the psych.OMG Then the psych says she has decided to put him on clonidine so of course I Google it and its for high blood pressure and kids have died from going off it too quickly and other things that affect the heart. Why would she pick this drug of all the drugs out there? I dont think its a good idea Im just not comfortable with this drug and Im beginning to not be comfortable with this psych. Im thinking of getting a new one. She has wasted a lot of our time and money. What do you think? Anyone have any experience with Clonidine?

Well, Shannon doesn't have any heart problems but she was on clonidine a couple years ago for sleep problems associated with her ADHD. I knew it was an adult BP med at a higher doseage, but we decided the Dr knew best & we'd give it a try. I wasn't happy. First of all, I was a nervous wreck about her BP...thankfully my mom is an RN so I had her monitor it closely with her cuff. Then she kept needing more & more to achieve the same results (plus you couldn't skip a dose & it made her SO sleepy & that was a huge problem on nights where we were doing something & wanted her to stay awake later). We weaned her off it & used melatonin instead.

TIff used Clonidine for a short period of time to help her sleep all night. It made her so depressed. At night she would get weepy and tell me that she shouldn't have been born and that she wanted to die. I found out that a side effect could be deep depression. So she came off of it and uses Melatonin.

I will have to disagree from my stand point, Christian has been taking clonadine since he was 6, now 11, and he stayed on 0.1 mg up until this year when he was having real difficulty sleeping so they upped him to 0,2 mg. He uses at night to sleep, but he also takes it for his anxiety, we do watch his blood pressure, and it has been fine, if he doesn't take it, he is more irritable and grouchy in the morning (some of that is because he never shuts his eyes from the ADHD meds (Concerta). If he is doing something at night that requires him to be up late, I just give it to him when he is done, but he can still keep him self up if he has too, it doesn't knock him out. So in all reality, I have had nothing but good with the clonadine
