The Adderall Sean is taking is doing nothing. The dosage was upped 2 weeks ago and it just doesn't help. Not from what I see anyway at home. He still runs around this house like he's been on a 3 day crack binge at all times. I was wondering if it helped in school though so I did a little experiment of my own, but didn't tell anyone because I didn't want peoples observations being swayed by their knowledge. Last week he took it every day as prescribed and had 4 bad days and 1 good day at school. This week I didn't give it to him at all and he had 4 bad days and 1 good day. Both weeks the communication book said the same things-talking during class, being preoccupied, refusing to follow directions, calling out and interrupting. His weeks were identical with and without the medicine so I don't see why he should take it. I'm going to see how next week goes with him taking the Adderal but if it's the same again I'm probably just going to take him off it. Thoughts?

I don't know,KK. My daughter isn't medicated, but I know that most people try several different meds on their child before finding the right "fit". Is there any other meds he can try?

Its rare for the first med to be the ideal fit. Sometimes a combo of meds are necessary before you can see the full effect.
My suggestion is to call the pdoc on Monday and tell him what you observed and see what he suggests.

Definitely some patients need to try different meds until they find the correct one. My son took strattera first and that one made him aggressive and bad tempered. Concerta has been so much better on him. We only added a very small dose of ritalin to enhance Concerta's benefits and this has been wonderful for him.
You can wait for next week to see what happens once he is back on the adderal and the you can contact his Dr to see what you can do. But it wouldn't be a bad idea if you contact the Dr sooner and to fill him in about your experience.
I wish you luck and keep us posted.

I did tell the psych at our last two appts. that it was having no effect. I also have been telling her for months that the Depakote doesn't work either, but that is something that you just can't stop suddenly. Now that he's been discharged from the program he will not be seeing her anymore. I am once again looking for a new psych. and until I find one his pediatrician is monitoring him. I figured I'd stop the Adderall before we started seeing a new psych.

Christian has been on just about every med out there, and no effects with most...he we found out after years, has a very high tolerance for meds, so if we gave him 36 of concerta no effect, upped it to 54 still nothing, went over what they perscribe to 72 and we hit it....that was the same way for every med that we tried. Most kids can take 10 mlg of ritalin 3-4 times a day and see an effect, Christian would have to take at least 30 3-4 times a day. One more thing, we upped the adderal to above all levels and NEVER EVER saw a change, it just didn't work for him. Try Concerta, but have them start him at a higher dose and then work down if you have too...most kids will do really well on the 54. Hope it helps.

The adderall XR caused insomnia in my son, but the regular adderall 5 mg 2 1/2 times a day worked for a short time, but isn't anymore. The doctor changed us to vyvanse 30 mg starting this weekend so hopefully that will work!
