I just noticed that my son's body temp is running 95, 96 or 97. He was feeling a little under the weather but not really with any specific symptoms so I took his temp and it was that low all weekend. He is better but with a small cough now and has been functioning okay just tired. Still with the low temp.I don't know if he just has a normal low temp (his father does) or if this could be med (vyvanse, tenex) related or something else. I have a call in to the doc but I wonder is anyone else has expewrienced this?

I think the call to the dr is your best bet.
If your husband's is normally low it could be your son inherited it. It might be a good idea to check your son's temp when he is feeling fine a few times so you know if its normal for him. That would give you a baseline because he could run a fever and it would only show up as normal if you didn't know what normal is for him.

No that is strange to me, did you ever figure out if that was a fluke or what it was. The only time my body temperature ever went below the norm was when I fell through ice in a pond and was soaking wet and had to be in wet cold clothes for about 15 minutes!! Luckily the pond was only about 5 feet deep!!!

I would definitely want to talk to the Dr. but it can just be his "normal" temperature. My temp. is usually between 96-97 something. When I am really sick and feel feverish my temp is never over 99. Let us know what the Dr. says.

I don't know if your son is taking a combo of meds but some medication alone can certainly reduce the body temperature (hypeothermia symptoms) as well as combinations of meds. Here is a link that list some of the medications that can cause this. Look under "Causes" and then both "Medications causing Hypothermia" and "Drug Interactions causing Hypothermia". www.wrongdiagnosis.com/symptoms/hypothermia/side-effects.htmYep, I'd sure be talking to the doctor as soon as you can. A temp of 95 is getting too low.

oops, I see i didn't post this in the correct place. How do you post a new topic? Sorry , I'm a newbie. My son is 7y. I feel terrible in saying this, but I'm tired of explaining all of his issues. He isn't very violent and he is doing ok in school, in fact he is an AG kid (academically gifted). But our relationship is horrible. I hear "I hate you" from him atleast once per day. He is hyper (though he can sit still when he has too, but once home all bets are off) and now angry (when doesn't get his way) and impulsive (both with happiness and anger). We tried 'talk therapy' w/ 2 different psychologists over the last 2 years. He understood the 'tools' for handling his 'moods' but when it came time to implement them, he just didn't want to. It always seems to me that he enjoys the intense emotions that he is feeling at the time and doesn't really want to try to stop. We then went to a pscyhiatrist who put him on Prozac for 1 year. That seemed to work very well, but when it came time to taper him off and actually a little before we started to taper him off, his anger and impulsivity increased a lot. He is now off of Prozac and is on Tenex. Today is his first day of 2x/day dose. I'm hoping this helps. His focus is not great also, and I realize Tenex doesn't really help this, but one thing at a time. My question is this as I'm losing hope and am fearing for his (our) future. Especially after the Omaha mall shooting and reading that poor boy's Mother's apology. She asked "what else could I have done, I did my best". He was in and out of facilities for mental health etc. I'm scared this is what my child could have in store. My question is this: is there anyone out there who had a child start off this way (as have all of ours here on this board) and 'grew out of it' or at least didn't wind up going on a killing spree or be on a coctail of meds his whole life? Thank You for reading this far down and for replying as I know how busy everyone is.

Welcome to the family Pamela!
When my son was your son's age I had the same fears you are having now. Many of us have gone through it and some are just going through it now. You definitely aren't alone.
Its highly unlikely that you have to worry about your son having a criminal or violent future. Things are much better in school and there are more treatment options out there than there were even a few years ago. When you consider how many kids with neuro diagnosis' there are out there and how few end up becoming dangerous, you should feel reassured. Even most of them without parents doing their best for them end up becoming responsible adults.
I put my son on Omega supplements (fish oil, flax seed oil) when he was 8 for the same behavior you are describing and it made a big difference. It can take 60 to 90 days to take full effect and the reduction in symptoms are so gradual that you won't know its working until one day you wake up and realize you have a different kid. Unfortunately, like any other treatment, it doesn't have that effect for every child but I think its worth a shot. It was for us.
When you want to start a new post, you need to go into the section you want to post in and there will be a box or button at the top right corner that says new post. Just click that and you are all set.

Hi Pamela. My son is the same age as yours so I am sorry that I can't answer your questions about the future. BUT I have the same exact fears you do for my son's future. Especially in light of all the recent shootings. I have said more than once that I fear he may grow up and become that teenager that shoots up his school. He is a loner with no friends because of how mean he is to other kids and he is quite violent and agressive. He was in an outpatient program over the summer and taking Depakote and Adderall which did nothing. He currently sees a counselor and we (finally) got a psych appt in Feb. He is DX right now with ADHD,bipolar,OCD, and an anxiety disorder. Recently Aspergers has been suggested. Dont know exactly what were dealing with yet so.... Anyway when you want to post a new post just browse through on the homepage and see where you think your subject fits in. Click on it and click on new topic and type your post Welcome to the site and I hope we can be a help to you!
