My son was on Strattera for about 8 months. It wasn't good for him. I didn't see improvement on his adhd symptoms and he used to have a very bad mood all the time. I don't want to be pessimistic Tigger, I know that it works for 70% of the people and I must also add that it takes about two months (six weeks) before you start noticing results; so you have to be very patient; the dose has to be very well measured in regard to body weight. My son was put on it because the doctor thought that his tics would worsen if he went on stimulants. Finally we had no other choice and tried stimulants; fortunately he has done pretty well and he only gets tics usually at the end of each school term when he is a little tired and maybe a little stressed out too. In fact, the only benefit we saw with Strattera was that his tics stopped completely.
Good luck with it!!

My son was on Strattera and had very bad depression. To the point where he didnt want to live anymore. That was scary. His old pshy actually dx him with a mood disorder when he was taking strattera and prescribed abilify with it. I knew there was something wrong. That was not my child. I took him to a new pshy and she took him off both meds and put him on Focalin xr and he has never been depressed since. It was that med that made him depressed. Just be very careful. I know everyone is different but if you notice anything weird i would let the doc know right away.
Edit to add: I dont mean to scare you but that is just how my son reacted to the med.

Tig...Josh has been on Strattera for a little over a year now and its worked pretty good. The thread that Charlie Girl suggested on Millermom is a very good one. Lots of info and peoples experiences.
I was scared to death to put Josh on Strattera after reading everything on it, but I have to say, after all the meds he's tried (and beleive me...we've tried them all) this has worked the best for him. There is no come down time in the evening, and there is a constant flow of meds in their system. It is not like a stimulant, it works more like an anti-depressant. If Nicole has mood issues, it can actually work better for them. Josh is very up and down with his moods, so it has worked well.
I will tell you that we had terrible side effects when we started. He was very tired and had horrible migraines with vomiting. But after about a week it disappeared. We ramped up very slowly so he wouldn't experience that again and it has worked. They say it takes 4 to 6 weeks to really see the results, but I noticed within days. Also, like someone else mentioned, it is weight based, so you have to be mindful of that. Josh actually metabolizes meds very different than most and he needs only 1/2 of what he should be on. He only takes 25 mg a day when it should be around 70.
I hope this helps. This was the med I had the hardest time putting him on. There is a lot of negative feedback (and rightly so) on this one. But, I'm glad we tried it because it was our last hope. He just can't take stims anymore. Let us know how Nicole does...I hope it helps.

Bugs good to hear that Josh is able to take Straterra. And remember our boys are like twins..lol. Just goes to show you that everyone reacts different to meds.

Tried it. Took a long time to work, then it worked fabulous for two months. Kept increasing the dosage until hitting the max dosage. Then it petered out and was worthless. Basically, it was a big tease.
