I started using the patch on Tiff Sunday. I am not having luck so far. It has been a week to say the least. They keep coming off of her or she is pulling them off because they itch she says. Which means as soon as they are "kickin in" she is getting of them or they are coming off. So she goes to the nurse to get the pill that she was getting at 3:45 after taking Concerta in the morning. I was so hoping that we could use the patch and get rid of the other 2 pills.
She is so wound by dinner time to since trying this. She can't focus at all. Is more mouthy then she has ever been in her life. It is all I can do to get her to settle to do homework, eat and do whatever else needs to be done.
I feel I need to keep trying it for several more days. But how long and when do I give up and go back to the Concerta and late day med?
It has been a very emotional draining week so far and it is only Tuesday.
Is this what happens at first for those of you who use Daytrana?

You know, she might be allergic to the adhesive. When I quit smoking I tried the patch & the same thing happened to me. It made my skin red, puffy, & extremely itchy. The Dr. said it was an allergic reaction to the adhesive.
Have you tried calling her Dr. & asking if that might be what's happening & if theres anything you can do to get around that?

It isn't red when she gets home. I haven't called the doc yet. I was trying to give it a good chance before calling him.

If she's pulling them off early, the redness may have faded. Try finding out how early shes pulling them off. If its simply shes irritated by them & not allergic, maybe you can work something out to take her mind off them until she gets used to it. If shes allergic to them, the Dr. may have some ideas. I'm just putting ideas out there...what are they made of? They're not latex, are they? If they are & shes sensitive to it, they may make non-latex ones...they'd have to...lots of kids are allergic to latex.
hmmmm......maybe someone else will have some more ideas. I hope you figure it out so you can find out if the meds actually work for Tiff.

wow sorry it is rough for you all. I am sure tiff does not like being so wound up either. Why did you stop concerta? I must have missed that.
I don't have any advice on the patch, wish I did for you all to get some relief! Calling the docs office might be a good idea just to ask the nurse if others had any ideas.

I went back to your first thread about Daytrana because I had forgotten.
Sorry to hear this; I hope you can contact the Dr soon to find out what he suggests.
I understand what you say about the effect of Concerta when she wakes up later on the weekends. In that particular, it happens to me that my ds won't go to sleep until very late on the weekends because he took the pill later, so... On the other hand, I will have him super hyper at 6pm during school days because he always takes his pill at 6am; so, we have to hurry here for the homework and sometimes we can't make it; he has to do homework with his adhd issues well marked and it is horrible...
Good luck Uni and keep us posted on what you do. What really kills my mind about the Concerta is his appetite; he has never been so skinny after being sick and to regain the weight is not an easy task with this med.

I tried those quit smoking patches too before and had the same problem as Misty. They itched like crazy and I could not forget for one minute that I had that patch on. I'm sorry that it's not working Uni, hopefully Tiff will get used to it but it's probably just driving her nuts.

Sorry to hear that the patch hasn't been working so well. I know how hard med changes are, especially when you have such high hopes and it doesn't pan out. ;; Big hugs today

Uni, I was having trouble with my Mom's patches. It seems the dry indoor weather makes the patch loosen and then because it is flapping around makes it itch.
I made dozens of calls but because my Mom's patch was a controlled substance so there was nothing anyone would do. I finally called Walgreens (in tears) and they ordered a different brand. It is working better but I still end up having to use paper tape to keep it from coming loose and causing the itching.
Of course it could be the adhesive like Misty mentioned. Another option is putting it where she can't reach to scratch. Like toward the middle of her back if they say that is O.K.
