Makes perfect sense to me. There is a stigma that is associated with BP. That is why I stayed in denial so long and why I had a difficult time accepting it. I think a lot of it comes from the media's stereotyping of people who commint some crimes with certain mental illnesses. We generally only hear the worst case scenarios. As much as I was in denial, when I went to a BP forum I discovered my symptoms were MUCH worse than the majority there. I was VERY surprised. I've learned a lot about manias there. Depressions are easy to identify, but manias are much more difficult because there are so many different kinds. Many of the people only experience 1 or 2 different manias. I experience ALL of them. I also discovered I have mixed states and rapid cycle as well. Meds help A LOt, but I still experience both depression and mania. they are easier to handle now though. The hardest is when I'm in a 'happy' mania. I don't want to take my mood stableizer then. I like feeling like that, but it quickly spirals out of control, I make very bad choices, do things I later regret and end up in a depression. Life is much better being stable.
