I was just wondering if lack of need for sleep necesialiry means one is manic, because i haven't been needing much sleep lately, but i feel fine, and i've been staying on top of my meds. So it's kinda confusing me. I was hoping maybe some of you know, because I'm not scheduled to see my pdoc for another month.

So how much sleep are you getting? I'm not bipolar or on any kind of meds but thought I'd ask a few more questions so someone who knows can give you a better answer.
Also, had you, in the past, been good about taking your meds? I ask this because if you were not then gauging what you need now may not be comparable to what you needed or didn't need in the past.
Personally I only need 6 hours and that is optimum for me. But sometimes I just get insomnia and I'm not depressed or anything. So it could be just normal. Maybe you being off of work has triggered something to make you more up and less tired.

Well, that isn't good at all! I know meds help lessen the ups and downs so they aren't as extreme so it is possible you are in a manic state but because the symptoms are lessened you don't feel like you are in a manic state. Maybe the meds don't "fix" the not needing sleep??? I'm just guessing here. Why don't you call your doctor and let him know what is going on. I call my Mom's doctor all the time.
I hope someone else will chime in here. Be sure to check back tomorrow.

I agree with jj. Please do call your doc asap. That much lack of sleep can damage your health and seriously affect your thinking even though it feels like you are fine. Your doctor can tell you much more then I can. Please let us know what he tells you and I hope you will be able to get the sleep you need as soon as possible.

Your body needs a certain amount of sleep to rejuvinate. I don't think 3 hours a night is enough to be healthy and I'm positive that 3 hours a week isn't good.
Call your pdoc.

I agree--go to or call your doctor ASAP. From everything I've read, sleeplessness comes hand in hand with bipolar, but there are things you can do & meds you can take to help combat it so you can get the sleep your body so desperately needs! Your doctor will know what to give you or what to tell you to try. Keep us informed.
By the way, we missed you, candyhound! Glad to see you back!

I have a real hard time going to sleep and staying asleep and the doc gave me restoril....I love this stuff it is the most perfect sleeping med. It feels so natural. but it says it is very addicting so I am scared to take it. I take it maybe once a week and get a good nights sleep.
I'm on paxil for anxiety and it makes me feel like i have taken something for energy...wide awake. Just ready to go. I'll bet your med is doing the same thing.
