-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ACTIVEX CONTROLS POSE SERIOUS RISKS FOR IE USERS
ActiveX controls are one of the reasons I prefer Firefox. ActiveX was developed by Microsoft to make Web pages more interactive. But hackers can take advantage of the controls to attack your computer.
I switched to Firefox because I didn't want to worry about the dangers of ActiveX controls. But if you're a die-hard IE fan, you can just disable the controls. Click Tools>>Internet Options. Select Internet zone then click Custom Level. Scroll through the settings until you find the ones for ActiveX. There are seven settings. Disable them all.
You'll encounter some sites that require ActiveX. In that case, you'll need to enable the controls again. To do this, follow the steps above, but click Default Level instead of Custom Level. Remember to disable the ActiveX controls when you're done with the page.
