I made the flapjacks last night while I was watching TV....I used 3 and 1/2 cups of the oatmeal, and added (I didn't measure any of this) some chopped peanuts, some dried mixed fruit, and some sunflower seeds.
I had never heard of the golden syrup, but when I went to the store there it was right above the pancake syrup on the top shelf...
I had one last night and I loved it!! Chewy and crunchy all at once! I hope that Chase will like them as well, but he was very tired last night(he had had a friend over friday and saturday nights and been up late) , so right after dinner at 7 PM, he took a movie to his room after brushing his teeth and went to bed! I will have him try one this morning.
Our school is on a 2 hour delay due to freezing rain on top of 3 inches of snow, so I am letting the boys sleep in.

glad you liked it,they are so easy to make and i love the fact that you can play with the recipe.i made some at xmas with chopped nuts and dark choc chips and melted some white choc, mixed it with peanut butter and covered the flapjacks before i cut them.
when the time comes for the fayres at my kids school,i am always asked to bake for them and at jude's playgroup the other mums were so happy when it was my turn to bring something.

Chase loved them too! He ate one for breakfast, I gave him one from one of the inner rows, because I kind of overcooked them and the edges are extra crunchy (oops). Next time I will pay more attention to the cooking and less to the football game.....
I have a chicken that I am roasting tonight for supper, so I will try the chowder tomorrow with the leftovers...we will have it on Wednesday....

He came back later and ate another one all on his own, and that tells me that he really liked them...sometimes he tells me he likes something just because he doesn't want to hurt my feelings, then doesn't eat it again...
So I have snacks for his bookbag for the whole week now!! And it is healthier for him than the mini brownie muffins that I was packing. Not sure of the calories, but these have to have a decent amount with all of the extra stuff I put in, right? I wonder if you could add peanut butter?? That seems like it would be tasty....

I am still up because I am making another batch of the flapjacks! Chase has been munching on them all day in between meals, so I am making another batch. The best thing is that Jake does not care for them...I know that sounds bad, but Jake is an eating machine if he likes something, and there just wouldn't be any left for Chase! Jon DOES like them though, so I gotta remind him not to eat them all....he came out to the kitchen a minute ago, and said, "Can I have one of Chase's bar thingys?" I told him to go ahead because I am baking more...this time instead of mixing in the chocolate chips, I have put them on top of the hot from the oven mixture, I am hoping that once it cools a little and they melt, I will be able to spread them out. If not they will just lay on top...

flapjacks on their own are supposed to be for a healthy diet but the calories go up with what you add. did it go ok last night,i was worried that the choc chips would burn?my oven is a fan oven so it does that.
go back to my last post it tells you about peanut butter.this would crank the calorie up . i will think about anything else quick and easy that chase could like.

I took the pan out of the oven and then sprinkled the chocolate chips on top. After it had cooled for a few minutes, I was able to spread the chocolate chips like frosting. Chase declared them a success this morning, and took one of each for his after school snack on the bus ride home.
I feel pretty good about him eating them because they have lots of good stuff in them....oatmeal, dried fruit, nuts, the sunflower seeds....
I printed out the other two recipes, they look good too. He seems to eat more if he can pick it up and wander with it....makes it less of a chore than to sit down and eat....but that is what they say isn't it. If you want to lose weight, you are supposed to make it a point to sit at the table every time you eat, so that must mean that you eat more if you don't...
I am not going to be able to make the chowder till this afternoon, my hubby used the potatoes for his baked potatoes with supper last night (he cooked for the boys), so I will buy more potatoes this afternoon, and make it and we will eat it tomorrow night. Chase is not a soup/stew kinda guy, but Jake, Jon and I all like those kinds of meals.
