Took Sean to the therapist today-the one we had to see before they would make the psychiatrist appt. We now have a psychiatrist appt. Big surprise right? However the first available is Feb 4th!!! In the meantime the therapist will see him weekly. She talked to him for quite a while-her 1st impression was something in the autistic spectrum, most likely Aspergers. And definitely the BP. She did not see the "other" side of him-the hyperactivity-because she had a whole bucket full of pencils and he is very obsessive about sharpening pencils. So he was very subdued and did nothing but sharpen pencils while they talked. She said he definitely needs meds. So now we have to wait anothern 2 months but at least we have an appointment. Which is one step ahead than yesterday.

You're getting there, KK! I think its great that she already sees some BP tendencies in him. I'm sure that he'll get a proper diagnosis & the right meds when the psych sees him! And the weekly therapist visits will get everything into his file. You're finally on the way up, KK!

Wow, Aspergers and BP? I'm so happy for you and for Sean. I bet it feels great you can start moving forward instead of spinning your wheels.

So glad to hear you are on the right path kk. My step-dad is bp and wow when his meds are not working he can be a doozy.
Could you ask the person who makes appointments to keep you in mind if there is a cancelation? Just a thought. I know they do this at the psych my son sees.

That is great that you have the appointment at last! I'm glad she spotted issues immediately. Sean deserves to be diagnosed and treated as soon as possible. I am sorry that she sees bipolar in him but since you already thought that he had them, its a relief to know you are on track and someone is finally admitting its not just your parenting.

I am not a therapist, but to me a child that can spend an entire appointment sharpening pencils....that would indicate something to me too...
I am glad that you are on the right track now, kk...

that is cool that she will be seeing him weekly til you get into the physciatrist, at least if his behavior elevates or gets out of hand, you have a contact that could probably bump his appt up if needed. Maybe you won't feel so alone and overwhelmed for a bit - keep moving forward!

So glad to hear you are making progress KK. Praying that this will lead to a better quality of life for all of you. I know how hard it's been for you and you sure can use a break. With the right diagnosis, the right meds and counseling I am praying that your life will be much easier.
