I called another neuropsych and am having the paperwork sent to me-this waiting list is *only* 9-12 months. I explained my situation to see if I could get in sooner and was told the wait is 9-12 months.I have one other that I left a message. The others were no good for one reason or another-only see children under 5, no longer take ins. AAAGGGHHH!!!

Hi again,
Dr. Beth Parish is a developmental pediatrician. I read other posts about a neuro psych and I did not want to point you in the wrong direction. I have to go in my garage and get her direct number to her office at St. Chris's and post it back to you. She came highly recommended by the Special Education Coordinator at my job. The psychologist and psychiatrist I took my son to both told me that she was very respected and knowledgeable. If and when you call, ask some questions as to if she is going to be able to give you a definitive dx for school purposes. Because mental health was not her field of study, she directed me to a child psychiatrist. Through the interview and examination of my son, she was able to rule out, at least in my case, any possibility of Aspberger's, which my son's school insisted he had. This was huge for us, because it gave us answers and stifled the school's future badgering about that subject. I liked Dr. Parish a lot. She respected my assessments of my son and listened to my plight I had with the school. Her report was very comprehensive. Because my son had striking and apparent anxiety and depression, she did not definitively diagnose ADD. I really liked that, because just because he lack attention skills in the classroom, really did not mean he actually had ADD. A child having a label is hard enough, but a child have an incorrect label is criminal. I like that she was conservative with this as anxiety and depression can cause a child to lack attention as well. With Gage's LD, her input really advocated for him. I'll get back to you with her number.

Carol, I called her office today-I got her number from my ins. website. I explained my situation and said that I have conflicting opinions as to if my child has Aspergers or not and she said she would send out the paperwork so I guess it's a similar situation to yours. Thank you for the information!

Todays news:Won't say good news yet but... My husband spoke to someone in human resources about our problem with finding a psych. She gave him a number for someone, who I'm not sure what her job title is but she is like an advocate for situations like this. I called her & told her what has been going on and she made lots of phone calls. Somehow she found a psychiatrist who takes our insurance and is accepting new patients. I called today and gave my info. and the secretary is going to call about our insurance and speak to the doctor and call me back on Monday. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

My never-ending saga continues. We went to the therapist today-she works in the same group as the psychiatrist-when I told her about the appt. she told me that I was the 3rd complaint she got about him today. She was upset because she wrote him a summary about Sean and also about the fact that even though I am not his bio. mom I am his "mom"and that I am the person he needs to talk to. She also totally disagrees with everything he said. She said that she sees kids who have RAD and that Sean is nothing like them. She said they are very "prickly" and uncooperative and do not form the kind of realtionships that she sees between Sean and myself and also between herself and him. She also said that yes, kids with Aspergers can have meaningful play and that is not a reason to dismiss the possibility of Aspergers.

Well, thats good KK. Sounds like she is someone that will help you. And if that psych is getting so many complaints, maybe he won't be around long.
