In identical twin study, targeted kids more likely to develop depression
updated 4:18 p.m. ET, Wed., Feb. 6, 2008 NEW YORK - A new study provides strong evidence that being bullied can cause children to develop depression and anxiety. Among identical twin pairs in which one experienced bullying between the ages of 7 and 9 and the other did not, the bullied twin was significantly more likely to have symptoms of internalizing problems at age 10, Dr. Louise Arsenault of King’s College, London, and her colleagues found. I can't believe they felt they had to do a study to figure this out!

Its interesting that it always seems to be on the schools to deal with internet bullying, even when they are considering legislation. It isn't the school's responsibility.
I don't understand why they can't take away the child's right to use the forums they are using or the internet completely if they find a way around the forum ban. I bet if a kid is forbidden the right to use myspace and other forums like it with the stipulation that they will have internet access removed from the home if they are caught using them, their parents will become more involved in monitoring what the kids are doing.
As for adults who pose as kids to harass a child like that mother did and then girl she was bullying killed herself, they should be charged even more harshly.
I still find it hard to believe there is an adult out there who could possibly think bullying is ok and doesn't hurt the victem in some way.
