Today while Sean was doing his homework his hands were trembling so bad that he could barely turn the pages of a book and hold the pencil. I called the psych. and was told he was not in today but the receptionist said she would call him & if I did not hear back by 6:30 to call her again b/c that is what time she leaves. He was still trembling at dinner and I called back again and the receptionist said she would call the Dr. again and now it is almost 8:00 and he never called back. It says in the info that came from the pharmacy to call the Dr. immeadiately if you have these symptoms and it says "trembling of the hands." I did not give the medication tonight and I don't know what to do and I am MAD!

The Dr should have an answering service. I'd call again & tell them its an emergency & have them page him, call on his cell phone, whatever. Almost all Drs are able to be reached by their services. When you get him, be sure & tell him you called several times earlier. I'd be mad too.

www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?p=2654657&highlight=abilify#post2654657read post number 4. This lady took her son off of abilify after 6 months. The side effect she mentioned was severe hand trembling. I would contact a poison control center if you have to just to be sure. It was hard to tell from the side effect info whether hand trembling was something to worry about or whether it was more major muscle trembling. Better to be safe than sorry.

Well I called the pharmacist and he said to stop giving it to him. He said that he should not have any problems not taking it for the day since he has been on it for such a short period of time. I am so angry with the psych and the worst of it is that I am stuck with him because there is no one else. I do not want to deal with someone who cannot take 5 minutes to return my call when I am concerned with my child. I am worried about the trembling and also other side effects that I may not be aware of because Sean never talks about how he is feeling so how would I know if something did not feel right to him. I was thinking about lately that he never makes statements like "I dont feel good" "I feel sick" or anything like that. It's odd. I realized that the only time I have ever known that he was sick was b/c I either touched him and realized he had a fever or he threw up. Other than that I would never know. He never says he feels or is ___________. Anything-tired, hungry, bored, sick. I don't know I just started noticing this in the past few months. Wow I got completely off topic.

Well surprise, surprise the psych. called back today. Sean's hands were still trembling today but by tonight it was a lot less. He told me to start giving him 1/2 a pill once they stopped. I dont even know if I want to because A. They are not working anymore and B. There are some really strange side effects, worse than the trembling hands. I think Sean is unmedicatible.

I think you need to tell the psych straight out that just because something isn't as serious as you thought, you still need to hear it from him because you don't know whether its life threatening and he never got the message or whether it isn't a big deal.

I do not know much about medications, but does this med have to be weaned? I do not know if you asked the psychiatrist. Some medications you cannot abruptly stop taking. Hang in there.

Normally he would have to be weaned off it but since he just started taking it, its not as much of an issue as it would have been had he been on it for a long time.
