Anyone have any experience with this med? The psych gave me a RX for it yesterday. I did not give it to him yet because I wanted to research it a bit. It is an anti-seizure med like the Depakote but I've never heard of it before.

KK, I've never heard of this one. I'm going to go do a little research and I'll get back to you.

I tried it with Christian, but didn't like the way it made him....they used it because on of the doctors insisted he was Bi-Polar, and when I put him on it, he basically became, pardone my words...some one with balls bigger than an elephant...they said it would take weeks to kick in, but I noticed a change within 3 days, as well as the teachers did, when he told them" Whatever, I will do what I want"....for all the issues that he has, or had, disrespecting a teacher was NEVER one that I had dealt with....so we stopped it after 5 days...there was a lot more confidence in him, but confidence in the wrong way...

Oh dear, we don't need that. I have already seen that effect with the Abilify to some extent both at home and school. He has become quite fresh and mouthy and that is one thing that he is usually not.

KK michael just started this med. He has been on it for a week now. The pysch started him on it because he was trying to kill himself on the lamictol. And I cant say that i have seen anything quite yet. But then again I am sure we have to wait for a few weeks, before we see any side affect or any difference. But I will let you know what we see.

KK one of the things the physch went by in trying to figure out if he was bi-polar or not was that she said " he had the feeling of which he was above all" now for the most part the only time that Christian ever displayed that was with his 2 younger siblings, never on the outside towards friends or other adults, in that sense he was more uncomfortable in his own shell, that he basically was a follower not a leader...but this doctor insisted it was bi-polar..in order to help him I opted to give it a try...the feeling of GRANDOIR or BIGGER THAN LIFE only came into play after I started him on that med...so in trying to explain to the doctor if he truly was bi-polar, this would of calmed those feelings not made them worse....and the effect it had on him was that he became bigger than life, something that with kids like we have, they don't need...my only suggestion is to try it over the weekend, he seems a lot like Christian was at that age, and at 12 I am still trying to figure out meds with him...the abilify worked great for a while, but very quickly he exceeded the maximum amount he could take and he has with just about every med out there that we tried....with him I found that sticking strickly to an ADHD med long acting, was the only thing that has helped him. When all the anti depressents, bi-polar, anxiety, depression meds were added, he displayed behaviors, tics, motions that weren't there...
