Hi, I do not know if this belongs in this thread. My son does not seem to struggle so much with making friends. He does have problems with expressing his emotions and dealing with negative emotions. I cannot say enough of positive things about this art therapy class he has been attending. He happens to love art even though he chooses not to admit it. I see a positive change in him since he started these classes. He is free to explore the medium assigned for the session and express himself through art with the teacher/therapist. I do not understand all the techniques, but he seems content with it, almost looking forward to going every week. I wanted something he could feel passionate about since there has been failures in the past. This is an outlet in which none of his issues seem to intrude his functioning. I just love it and advocate for it. His teachers genuinely like him and respect his already natural artistic abilities. He senses it and is starting to share with them in a way I have not seen him do with anyone.

Its wonderful that he has found a way he can express himself and thats good for his self esteem. I'm thrilled for him.
I hope that when he pursues his art in the future that it will enable him to shine in front of his peers and give them something really positive to see in him.

That's great! I don't know if it is my imagination but I think a lot of ADHD kids have artistic talents and it is wonderful he is feeling good about it. Woo Hoo.

yeah I know a lot of kids that have ADHD also have a way of expressing themselves in that way and I think it is a really good thing! I am not sure about this tie between art and therapy, but it must be there, art is very relaxing and hyper focus for me as an adult ADHD'er. I hope you can post some of his art down in the section where I and others have posted ours!
I have actually learned somethng from another ADHD'er on the art thread! Shannon taught me some stuff about art that I had not a clue about. Shannon turned me onto my latest avatar, I did not even have a clue of the artist prior to that conversation through Misty. :-XART is COOL!

I went to the exhibit of Frida Khalo at the Art Museum with a friend. I purchased a video and a children's read along book about her life. I shared my art museum experience with my children. They watched the video about her life and artwork. The children's book was awesome. Somehow I tried to tie in for my son, that this woman in the pain and suffering of a previous bus accident was able to channel it through her art. She used her art to cope and express how she felt about the things in her life. At first, he was not interested, but I know he shared this experience with his therapist at school and spoke about it in a positive way.
He loves photography and the Ansel Adams exhibit is coming to the art museum. I think some of the outlets I provide are helpful.

I am not familiar wiht the first artist you mentioned? Will have to google that one! Ansel Adams photos are awesome, it amazes me that his black and white photos are so beuatiful. I have been to most of the places he photographed in my career, he was big into Yosemite photos, fought many fires there!
I hope you kid stays interested in art, it is good.

She loves to draw & write. Both are good outlets for her. In my opinion, she could be an author when she grows up....HEY! Maybe she'll write a book & Lcdc can illustrate it! Anyway, through me Shannon has been sharing artwork back & forth with Lcdc. Not only has she taught Lc some things, but Lc has taught Shannon & I both a lot of things about art. We agree with LC that ART IS COOL! I looked up Frida Khalo. She's a Mexican artist who does mainly self-portraits. I didn't care much for them myself, but her story is interesting.
