Hello Friends! Has anyone used Strattera? We are using it but only for the past three weeks and no help yet. The Doc just raised it to 40MG today. Any feedback on this med? Any help would be appreciated. Peace, Roe

Hi & welcome to the board! I moved this to the meds board so it can get better attention.
My DD was on Straterra. We loved it at first. After the initial side effects went away, it really helped with focus. but we were unhappy that it made her seem sad & joyless. All her bounciness went away. I came to the conclusion that if the child is hyper type this might be a great med, but for the strictly inattentive, it went a bit over board. DD also didn't like the way it made her feel. She said she felt like being mean & hurtful but didn't know why. We took her off it. I know there are people who's kids do great on it, so please don't take my opinion as the rule.
Charlie Girl, I need you to chime in here with the link to the Straterra thread on Millermom's.
When she posts the link, you'll see alot of info about everything there is to know about Strattera!

Welcome, Yoroe! We're so happy that you have found us. My son has been on Strattera for a little over a year and a half. We have seen some wonderful results, but it was a rough start. First, we had some unpleasant side effects. My son had problems with stomache pain, tireness, and headaches. We almost gave up on it, but we waited it out on a lower dose and they dissappeared within a couple of weeks. I have to say that I seen results within days, but that is NOT typical with Strattera. Most people see results at 4 to 6 weeks, once they reach there target dose. My son is VERY hyper and it seems to work well with his hyperness. I'm not totally sold on his attention, but it does help. This was our last hope after trying every stim available. When he was on the stims, they helped with focus and hyperness, but the rebound time was awful. With the Strattera, we have no rebound. So, I would say for us, its working pretty well. There are still some things I wish it helped with, but doesn't. I hope this helps a little bit. And once again, Welcome!

Hi! Welcome to the board.
Keep in mind that Strattera takes some time to show an effect; I don't remember well, but I think it was about 4 weeks; it is also important that you know that it only works for 70% of the patients. My son was on it for a while but it wasn't the med for him; he was in a bad mood most of the time. So, if it doesn't work, I am sure there will be another possibility; however, your doctor has the best advice for you. Keep records on his behavior, whether you see any positive or negative change in behavior; then, discuss your results with the dr.
The dose of Strattera also plays a very important role since it is strictly linked to body weight.
Good luck and keep us posted.
