www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/05/27/earlyshow/main4130288.shtmlA kindergarten teacher had a 5 yr old boy with aspergers stand in front of the class while the students took turns telling him what they didn't like about him. Then she had them vote as to whether or not he deserved to be in their class. His best friend said he did and she coerced him into saying he shouldn't. When the mother confronted her she told her, then asked Alex where he was going to go now. He said the principal's office and the teacher told him in front of his mother that they didn't want him there either. She doesn't think she did anything wrong. The school is apparently doing nothing and the parents were told they didn't have any grounds to press criminal charges. That teacher should be fired. She should be prosecuted for abuse. Her name is Wendy Portillo and the school is Morningside Elementary in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

what the heck? If I had a kid in that class, I would refuse to send them to school until that teacher was disciplined! I think she should be voted off the island EARTH!

I cannot believe that not only does the teacher not think she did anything wrong, but that the school is not disciplining that teacher! She was a ringleader in ostracizing a child! The teacher is supposed to be helping the children to get along and embrace one another's differences at that age! I mean, I have lessons on social skills, learning to be kind to others, sharing, etc. for that age group, they are still babies for goodness sake!
How heartless of her and the school she teaches in!
And the state district attorney's office says this does not meet the criteria for emotional abuse? How? For a five year old, this is their only society...and to have to stand and be told by your peers what they don't like about you has to be horrible!

This is disgusting and this woman should be fired yesterday. However it does not surprise me that the school is not going to discipline her. I have seen worse done to a child by a teacher who now has tenure. This poor kid, reminds me of something that could be done to Sean. I hope that mother tries a different route to get something done. And I really hope she sends him to a different school because I would NEVER send my child back there.

Thats sickening. What a huge blow to a child's self esteem! I hope the mother pursues filing criminal charges against that school! I agree with Lc....that teacher needs voted off the planet. I wonder if she has kids & how she treats them.

How about all the parents of that school have the teacher and principle stand in front of them, then then the parents could say what they didn't like about them and vote for them to booted out of the school. Unfortunately school unions are in the top three are far as power in this country goes so they can pretty much write their own ticket. Much and most of what they do is below the radar, kids are intimidated in all grade levels from kindergarten to 12th grade. Teacher make fun of students who are Christians, those who believe in absolute values or don't follow the party line of Darwinism. There is little to no critical thinking skills encouraged, it's just about all extreme 'political correctionism'' run amok

I am surprised the ADA, Developmental Disability office, and others are not involved they should be. If it were my child I would be getting an attorney and wanting heads to roll. I hope this witch loses her job and the Principal for backing her up.

I hope this witch loses her job and the Principal for backing her up. That is what I told Jon, that the parent needs to go after the school for violating the boys' rights as a disabled person. I am sure that the teacher knew he was in the process of evaluation for a disability.
