I've really been working hard with Josh on his social skills over the last year and he did something yesterday that I'm just so proud of him for.
Little background...He really struggles with initiating contact with people he wants to hang-out with. He's afraid to make phone calls with his peers (wants me to call), wants to do stuff but won't make plans with anyone (fear of rejection), just waits for others to contact him and then get disappointed when they don't. Anyway, we've really tried to help him with this. On the last day of school I let him take his cell phone and he collected tons of numbers. Everyone said...just give me a call. He was thilled. A couple of kids have already started texting him.
So yesterday him and his bestfriend Natalie went for a bike ride around our neighborhood. One of his classmates lives about 10 mins away on the bike and he likes this boy. He actually rode over to this boys house, went up to the door and asked him to play. I was shocked. He would have never done this six months ago! They all came back to our house and hung out for about an hour and then went back to his house and played on the trampolene til dark. He had such a great time. I was so thilled for him. I know it dosen't seem like much, but for him it was a big leap.
I'm praying that since it was such a positive experience that he will become more confident. I really let him know how proud I was of him. Hurray for Josh!
