This post could easily fit into some other areas, but being ADHD impatient me, I just will put it here! ;D
I don't know if I updated you all on Ran in ahwile, our life has been a little crazy and emotional these past couple weeks and all. Anyway her IEP and math teacher had recommended her for a 2 week session of math for 3 hours a day. I had told her early in the summer about it, but she used that ADD inattentive coping mechanism of not talking about it, so therefore it would not happen technique!
Anyway the night before I was like telling her to get to bed to go in the AM and she freaked on me and yelled and stuff and did not want to go! But, I knew the importance of it, so I was very calm outwardly and told her that it was to prep for high school so she would feel confident going in as a freshman and some of her anxiety and stress might be alleviated. Well, wierd what being calm and cool and compassionate can accomplish - she went and there were not many complaints after that! Still a few, mom, why does it have to start so early things, but that is it. She finishes tommorow and I am proud that she did this thing and I really hope it pays off in making her more confident in math!
So there is all your good news reporting from me for the day! I am proud of her work ethic!

Glad she saw the wisdom in preparing for High School math and in listening to her brilliant mom!

Glad she saw the wisdom in preparing for High School math and in listening to her brilliant mom! Me, a brilliant mom? You are funny! But, thanks! I often times think this LD/ADD kid would have been better off with a teacher mom or a specialist mom that could walk through the whole LD and IEP jungle with her and help her get set up for college! But I love her, she is a great kid!

I have issues walking through the accoms and such....but the jury is still out on if I have a touch of ADD myself.....LOL

You're a great mom Lc. I have seen many posts on various sites by moms who are teachers and are still frustrated trying to get any help for their kid.
A good parent is a good parent and will do what they can to help their kid. Even if the school issue is a nightmare the whole time, the inner strength, willingness to work hard and self esteem are only things parents can give their kids and they go a very long way towards helping them prepare for and have a good life.
Ran gets much more from having you as a parent than she would get if she had all the perfect accoms in school and had a parent who didn't care. Many kids get great grades in school and fail in their adult lives. There is much more to a person than IQ and early achievement. They really help but there are things in life that make you who you are that are just as important. You make sure Ran has the mix, a good upbringing and as much educational help as you can get her.

I pray all goes well at the new school. You have her records from her old school so they can see the difference her IEP made. Hopefully that will help them want to continue working with you.
