My List of Questions to Assess College Support Services
Would you please describe the program of support services:
Is the head of student disability services a specialist in ADHD and LD issues?
If not, is there an ADHD–LD specialist on the staff of student disability services?
How long has the individual in charge of ADHD–LD support been employed at your school?
Has there been an organized program to educate faculty members about supporting students with ADHD and LD?
How many students with ADHD are registered with your office?
Who will review the documentation? What are the credentials of the reviewer?
What happens to the documentation after it has been reviewed?
What kinds of accommodations does the school offer students with special needs?
How complicated is the procedure a student must follow to obtain alternative testing (extended time or on a computer)?
Is there a study skills program at your school specifically designed for students with ADHD problems such as organization, time management, and planning?
Is ADD (ADHD) coaching available through the student disability office?
Is there an ADHD student support group on campus?
Do members of your staff actively advocate for students with ADHD if they encounter resistance to accommodations from a faculty member?
Does a member of your staff participate in freshman orientation, helping students with ADHD and their families better understand and access services from your office?
