Senate Passes AD/HD Awareness Day
Greetings...
Thanks to a close relationship between the CHADD leadership and federal policymakers, the United States Senate moved last week to declare September 18, 2008 AD/HD Awareness Day. The Senate has officially acknowledged AD/HD Awareness Day since 2004.
The Senate's action carries significant symbolic meaning for the millions of people affected by AD/HD. It also provides us all with an opportunity to raise awareness. We appreciate the dedication of Sens. Maria Cantwell (Washington), and Gordon Smith (Oregon), who worked in a bipartisan manner to make this possible.
CHADD is taking full advantage of AD/HD Awareness Day. We will kick off a radio news tour on adult AD/HD this week that will reach millions of people across the country. Last week, our board president was interviewed by 13 radio stations across the country about AD/HD and back-to-school. CHADD chapter coordinators will also host community events this week to raise awareness about the disorder. We have joined forces with ADDA and ADDitude to get science-based information out to the public.
We invite you to get involved. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. Call in to a radio show. Or attend a local AD/HD Awareness Event. Visit our Web site for your local CHADD chapter to see if there is an Awareness Day event in your area. Good luck with whatever you decide to do on AD/HD Awareness Day.
Here's to even more awareness!
